So my partner and i have 3 months till little one is born. We have gone through loads of names but are struggling. We both however love the name Tyrion. Neither of us are bothered about game of thrones we both just love the name. Id happily use it but im concerened whether it is suitable.
We want something unique and dont want something mainstream. Has anyone on here named there child Tyrion?

It's a Welsh girls name.

Ladyhaha · 19/12/2014 19:26

It's also a Welsh boy's name & can be spelt Tirion. I love it and would definitely consider it, but I'm Welsh. Merrion is actually Meirion and is more often seen amongst middle-aged/older men.

Tyrion in GoT shot his father through the belly with a crossbow while he was on the toilet, I don't think it's an ideal name for a baby...

Hedgehogsbuzz1 · 19/12/2014 22:37

Not that keen but Tristan and Thierry are both stunning.

Yeah but he really deserved it, cat Grin

As with Arya fans, I would really wait till the book series is finished before using a name. Like, uh, whatever Darth Vader's name is. Anakin. It would've been a mistake to call your DC that prematurely (if the films had been written in the right order).

I know a Tyrion (all grown up) - he is completely lovely, unique, and a proper good heart, and for that reason alone you have to name your baby this.

Ps: never seen GoT

catsofa · 20/12/2014 01:17

Alisvolatpropiis he did! But let's hope that either the OP will be a much better parent, their child will be more forgiving, or at the very least they won't have too many crossbows lying around the house. Grin

Actually I love the character Tyrion and keep wondering if he will eventually end up on the Iron Throne with Sansa. I wish Martin would hurry up and write the last book, my baby is due in April and I'd quite like to know which names will be safe to use!

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 20/12/2014 01:25

Tyrion is waaaaaay too niche!

LuannDelaney · 20/12/2014 01:31

I'd be more inclined to call baby Caelan or Idris. But if you like a name you should go with that and have fun with your new born baby x

Nokomis · 21/12/2014 19:11

I had my baby 2 weeks ago and he's called Tyrion Elijah my family hates it wich made me want to call it him even more I love it and it's unusual it's actualy a celtic boys name a variation of Tyrone so if you like it go for it I did and it's only a charachter he won't be associated wit him for ever it's only because there's not many about at the moment. People name their kids dexter after the series with a serial killer named dexter tyrion isn't as bad as that xx

squoosh · 21/12/2014 20:18

I love GoT but think the trend for naming children after characters from the show is so naff.

Don't do it.

Disneylandkilledmychildhood · 21/12/2014 22:10

It's a Welsh girls' name. I work with a girl named this.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 21/12/2014 22:12

Isn't there one in The Last Battle in the Narnia series?

LeoandBoosmum · 21/12/2014 22:47

Sorry, but it's awful!
