Ran instead? Short for Ranulph or Randolph or Randall?

cece · 06/12/2014 08:44

I would assume it was spelt Wren and also a girl.

AlmaMartyr · 06/12/2014 08:51

I know a little boy called Ren and think it's lovely. Although I'm not sure if it's Wren or Ren. Stimpy didn't even occur to me, that cultural reference passed me by so can't believe it would be a problem for him.

TheWindowDonkey · 06/12/2014 08:52

And Stimpy. Was the first thing that popped into my head.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 06/12/2014 08:53

Ren means 'person' in Mandarin. Probably not a consideration unless you are likely to live in Asia though.

VixxenPlusAllTheOtherReindeers · 06/12/2014 08:54

I like it.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 06/12/2014 09:24

It's a Japanese boy's name to me (know a Ren with Japanese heritage). I like it, but would wonder whether there was a Japanese connection.

Sophronia · 06/12/2014 10:55

Ren as a nickname for Laurence / Lawrence / Lorenzo?

MarmiteChocolate · 06/12/2014 11:02

Ren means 'clean' in swedish. .... Confused Confused

rastamam · 06/12/2014 11:36

Ah I want to steal it now! Ren is perfect for a nickname for Lawrence! My Dh isnt keen but il work on that1 I really love it!

MmeMorrible · 06/12/2014 11:55

Footloose - immediate thought.

myrtleWilson · 06/12/2014 12:01

I like it, it was my choice for a boys name when I was pregnant with what turned out to be dd. That was 12 yrs ago and Ren and Stimpy was more of a thing then..not sure how muck of a connection it would have now...

LordJabuJabu · 06/12/2014 12:01

Stimpy

Jupiters2ndMoon · 06/12/2014 16:29

I really like it.

Floggingmolly · 06/12/2014 16:31

Why??? It's not a name... You could make an equal case for Tin or Box Confused

SoupDragon · 06/12/2014 16:33

I think it's awful.

jaggythistle · 06/12/2014 16:35

and Stimpy here too.

NorbertDentressangle · 06/12/2014 16:44

I went to school with a boy called Renn (with a double 'n'). He would be mid 40s now.

No idea where the name originated as he had pretty standard "run of the mill" parents IYSWIM (ie. no non-UK influences within the family, not hippies or arty-farty types, rest of the family had names like Steven, Paul, Simon, Louise).

googietheegg · 06/12/2014 16:51

I went to school with a boy called Soren who's nickname was Ren. V cool I think!

LottieMumofWilfJenkins · 06/12/2014 17:19

Footloose too !

itsnothingoriginal · 06/12/2014 17:26

I have a DS called Laurence who gets 'Ren' for a nn sometimes!

Beangarda · 06/12/2014 18:40

I know a very cool Ren in his teens with a half-Japanese parent, and a toddler Soren sometimes called Ren by family. I like it.

Incidentally, I can never quite get my head around the commenters who clearly try to turn any mildly unusual name into something tease-worthy, as if they hadn't left the playground, under the guise of doing you a favour. Because, being an adult, it never occurred to you that his peers would call Ren 'Rent boy.'

HelloitsmeFell · 06/12/2014 18:46

I like Wren for a girl but Ren for a boy? Just Ren?

No. It sounds like it should be short for something, but I'm not sure what. Confused

As a stand alone name it doesn't work.

TrousersSchmowsers · 06/12/2014 18:49

Another "and Stimpy" picturing jokes about farting. Sorry!
