I like it but it helps that the one Fabian I know is a lovely 7 year old

ReadyForDinner · 03/12/2014 09:24

I know a Fabian spelt Fabjan who is in his 30s, he's originally from Albania. I really like it and would definitely use it. its unusual without being outlandish. Our Fabjan gets nn Fab 9 times out of 10 but what a fab name to be known by Smile

ReadyForDinner · 03/12/2014 09:27

Ah - ours would be pronounced
Fab-E- an. We are up north, maybe that makes the difference.

Littleturkish · 03/12/2014 09:42

Fab-ee-an is the way the one I know pronounces it. Lovely name with both pronounciations.

MrsLettuce · 03/12/2014 09:47

I know several Fabians (and Florians) they're also prn. Fab-E-an rather than Fay-bee-an.

userffk · 03/12/2014 11:28

Thanks for opinions. I prefer the Fay bee an pn. I think this is the English pn.

The only Fabien I know is from eastern Europe and it is pronounced Fab ee an. I really like it.

Birgitz · 03/12/2014 11:47

I like it too - my friend's child is called Fabian - pronounced Fay-bee-an (in London) and they call him Fabi (Fay-bee) for short, which I also like

SophieBarringtonWard · 03/12/2014 21:00

I am British & would pronounce it Fay-bee-an. I like it. I know one, in London, of German origin.

FrancisdeSales · 04/12/2014 05:46

I am in Germany, lots of Fabians here. Also dd1s friend is Fabienne the female version. She is Fabby for short Smile

shoobidoo · 04/12/2014 07:05

I know one, pronounced Fah-bian.

skylark2 · 04/12/2014 13:06

I think it's a nice name, but too many political overtones in the UK for my liking (Google the Fabian Society, if you've never heard of it).

AdorableAbbie · 07/12/2014 12:50

Fabian is a nice name.

ch1134 · 07/12/2014 23:08

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! Sadly doesn't work with my surname

Mutteroo · 08/12/2014 02:04

We have a Fabien in the family, but its pronounced the German way which is a lot less attractive than the French way. Gets shortened to 'Fabi' (pronounced Far-bee) most the time.

TheNewStatesman · 08/12/2014 02:54

It's nice (although you might have to correct people on the spelling).

Beangarda · 08/12/2014 10:40

Lovely. Not usual, nice meaning, positive political associations. I would say it 'Fay - be - an' too, as in 'Fabian Society'. (If you are a roaring Tory, I suppose you wouldn't be considering it, anyway!)

lottiegarbanzo · 08/12/2014 10:58

Like it a lot and would pronounce as you do - think this is English version.

We have a little Fabian, pronounced Fay-bee-yan, but usually referred to as Fabi.

Although I think a few older relatives were initially a bit taken aback, we have only had positive comments and often get told what a lovely name it is.

UterusUterusGhali · 16/12/2014 09:28

I like it.

HoHonutty · 16/12/2014 09:32

I like it, I pronounce it Fab Ian.

InvalidUN · 03/02/2015 23:12

Our son is Fabian Valentine. Another Fabian in the world will make it richer.

Blackforestdonuts · 04/02/2015 07:40

I like it - it's popular here in Germany
