Baby brother for James

My current shortlist is:

Jason
Luke
Toby
Robin
Aaron

I quite like Jason because it's a well known name but it's not as popular now so there won't be three Jasons in the same class at school.

Luke has a nice ring to it but I'm worried that DH will spend all his time doing Darth Vader impressions.

I love Toby but I don't want to use Tobias as my surname begins with S and I don't like the double S sound. Yes I know James ends in S but DH insisted!

People have commented before that Robin sounds a bit wet but it makes me think of Robin Hood and Robin Williams.

My MIL commented that Aaron was common which I was quite surprised at. I live in Northern Ireland so it would be pronounce Arran rather than Air-on.

My DS1 is a James. If we ever have DS2 I like the idea of Matthew at the moment.

James and Luke is a good combination that I might have to keep in mind!

Benjamin George is definitely the best choice out of those you've suggested. The others are either not classic enough or don't go well with your middle name (eg Luke George is too monosyllabic). Benjamin is a lovely name and goes well with James

Mammanat222 · 27/11/2014 15:27

We have a James and had this baby been another boy he'd have been Finn.

ReggieJones · 27/11/2014 19:03

Benjamin, Luke and Toby all work well with James and with your middle name choice

Aherdofmims · 29/11/2014 22:21

Luke is by far the superior name on your list.

RedButtonhole · 30/11/2014 08:22

I like Finlay as a brother for James.

Or Alistair? DS is James Alistair.

From your list I like Aarron the best, and I like that pronounciation much better than "Air-ron".

Pelicangiraffe · 30/11/2014 08:23

Toby is as classy as James. I think the rest are quite different to James

Pelicangiraffe · 30/11/2014 08:24

Milo and Benjamin also work really well

Pelicangiraffe · 30/11/2014 08:25

Rex

Pelicangiraffe · 30/11/2014 08:25

Rafe

Pelicangiraffe · 30/11/2014 08:26

Otto

Aherdofmims · 01/12/2014 14:39

David or Robert go well.

Pelicangiraffe don't you think that Rex, Rafe or Otto are really different from James too? As in James is very traditional and your suggestions are ususual type names?

Am interested as I came across someone with a James and then one of the three on your list and thought gosh, those names are so different.

Jason - I know many Jasons & most of them are plumbers
Luke - One of my favourite middle names, not a first name for me
Toby - I know a 3-year-old & a 23-year-old. Super name.
Robin - Like Robyn for a girl, not too keen on it for a boy
Aaron - There were loads of Aarons born when I had DS some years ago. Seems to be popular again & while its not a bad name, I just don't like it.

Pelicangiraffe · 02/12/2014 00:48

I guess James is a well heeled name for me - like otto, rafe, Toby or milo. I can see Rex is more old man chic though. Jason, Luke and arron seem more naughty then a James. I wouldn't expect any of these chaps to have a brother called James. Alexander, Freddie, Sebastian, Reuben, Felix, Austin, Rory and Edward would be nice with James also

MiddletonPink · 02/12/2014 07:57

Jason would not go with James.

tuffgingernut · 02/12/2014 09:36

Imo Matthew would work very well.

fionadal · 02/12/2014 19:45

Robin and Luke are great and fresh-sounding. Both sound wonderful with James. Toby is rather overused where I'm from (Greater London). I would avoid.
Don't like Jason.Don't mind Aaron.
