Do you like the name Vita?

Nearly burnt out, trying to find a girl's name that I love and that DH doesn't hate. We have a dull-as-dishwater last name, so my main criteria is that the name is not too common. Would prefer it to be a reasonably well known name, to save the wee dot from having to repeat and spell every time she has a new teacher or places a phone order for a take-away! Would be keen on the name being of Latin origin. What do you think of Vita? The other forerunner is Lucia. Would be enormously grateful for any thoughts or suggestions! Flowers

I love Vita. DD2 would have been Vita if she hadn't been a boy.

RunByFruiting · 11/11/2014 14:59

I love it but won't use it as a playstation vita player (it was on our shortlist for ds1, before they announced the console name), sales are poor on the vita so in 5 years when she's at school I doubt any kids will know it (like neogen or sega Saturn)!

ScummyWithGin · 11/11/2014 19:18

I like it! I know someone called Aviva which I also really like and feels similar.

mathanxiety · 13/11/2014 19:33

I love Vita.

It's nicer than Lucia imo as it sounds stronger (*yy to snappy and not too frilly) to my ear, and completely uncomplicated as far as pronunciation, which can't be said for Lucia.

WestEast · 13/11/2014 19:35

Sounds like a brand of over priced bottled water to me, sorry.

StampyShortnose · 13/11/2014 19:38

Love the name Vita.
It's strong and unusual without being too wacky.

FishWithABicycle · 13/11/2014 19:43

I know a Vita, but she uses this as a nickname for Victoria.

Arlagirl · 13/11/2014 19:47

I love it

PandaNot · 13/11/2014 19:50

My grandmother was Vida which has a similar feel but sounds less like bottled water? Prefer Lucia though.

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 13/11/2014 19:57

I know a little girl called Lita, which I love.

burgatroyd · 13/11/2014 20:07

Prefer Vera

sausageandorangepickle · 13/11/2014 22:45

As someone else has mentioned, what about Vida?

OsloGin · 13/11/2014 23:01

I love Vita. Very Bloomsbury!

nooka · 14/11/2014 06:09

It's a gaming console to me (dh has both a PS Vita and a Vita TV) but as someone ha said neither are particularly successful.

As a name I think it's OK, a bit too short for me (I like names with options for diminutives).

Options in a similar vein could be Nina, Livia, Lavinia, Julia?

EugenesAxe · 14/11/2014 06:31

I don't mind it. I think it would depend on where you live - in SE many people would think Vita Sackville-West because Sissinghurst is here, also London/Bloomsbury group.

I think also that if your boring surname is short, you might want to go for a longer first. Although I love my maiden name, in total it was three syllables and I always thought it was too abrupt if it was ever read out!

Aviva.... why? And Vada is just Darth. Varda is a Tolkein Elvish name and slightly more of a possibility?! I like the idea of Victoria with Vita for short. Lucia is nice (I would pronounce Loo-chee-ah), or Lucinda/Lucie. Normally prefer Lucy but Lucie is fine for nickname.

EugenesAxe · 14/11/2014 06:33

I also know a Lina nn. Carolina. German heritage though.

Thumbwitch · 14/11/2014 06:36

I'm not keen on it, no.
MUCH prefer Lucia.

What about Viola?

ToniWol · 14/11/2014 07:17

Use it as a short for Elisavita? Which I believe is an E European variant of Elizabeth.

Thumbwitch · 14/11/2014 07:31

I think that would be more likely to be Elisaveta though Toni, and pronounced more like "vyetta" at the end. No reason why not though. :)

blondiep14 · 14/11/2014 07:32

Love it.

Blu · 14/11/2014 07:41

Vita is great.
Lucia is lovely too, but there will be pronounciation issues. Loo chee a or Loosha , and receptionists will shout Loo see a.

Gina
Lucretia
Cecily

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 14/11/2014 21:11

Thumb I read viola as voila!!! Which I think is a pretty much a perfect name to showcase a new born... Voila!!!

Thumbwitch · 14/11/2014 22:34

mrstowers · 14/11/2014 22:38

What if she marries Mr Lite?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/11/2014 22:39

It sounds Slav
