A sister for Aphra?

VainVulva · 10/11/2014 21:06

I'm due to have a dd who we are going to call Aphra (totally 100% decided on, so not looking for opinions on this Wink)

But I'm just thinking ahead to if we have another girl, what would we call her? What would you suggest?

Criteria would probably be one or two syllables, not to begin with an a or e and not too common!

If we had another ds it would definitely be one of the following...

Asa (breaking my own criteria)
Ezra "
Arlo "
Cassius
Jude
Sonny
Rex

Please indulge me, I love thinking about names! TIA

I was going to say exactly what wingcommander said so will add Delta or Gamma.....

TheWhispersOfTheGods · 11/11/2014 08:33

The Afra i know (that's how she spells it) has a sister Leah. I also think Naomi works really nicely with it.

BlueChampagne · 11/11/2014 13:16

Vashti
Tamsin
Meryl
Corinna

CruCru · 11/11/2014 17:31

What's your background? Would Naomi, Miriam, Tamar or Claudia work?

sanilee · 11/11/2014 17:56

Lida, Hermione, Athena, Ariadne ( I know, the As!- still both came to my mind)

sanilee · 11/11/2014 18:04

Oh, or Thalia?

GreatAuntDinah · 11/11/2014 20:17

If DS had been a girl he'd have been Naomi Aphra so I'll third Naomi. Or, staying in the feminist heroine vein, Olympe.

Wotsitsareafterme · 11/11/2014 20:20

I dunno but I think Aphra is an amazing name

What about Phaedra

AriaBanjo · 11/11/2014 20:23

Naomi

VainVulva · 11/11/2014 20:27

Thanks Wotsit I have a feeling its going to receive mixed responses though, but we both love it!

Lots of great suggestions! I don't love Naomi, more to do with associations than the name itself unfortunately!

Olympe is nice.

I think I may have to ditch the no a rule as I'm loving some of the a names especially Astrid!

Oh hooray. Aphra is one of my favourites buy DH no like. Sad

monkeymamma · 15/11/2014 20:43

Big Behn fan here so I'll indulge myself (i too love thinking about names).

You could got with other playwrights (susannah, caryl...)
Or other old English saints (Behn was originally Eaffrey but simplified the spelling later on)
Other feminist icons (Ada - or Lovelace!; Amelia; Simone; Germaine)

:-)

burgatroyd · 16/11/2014 10:40

I second Juno and Tamar.

How about Thisbe?

Aphra and Thisbe sound like kickin sisters!

BellaVida · 16/11/2014 11:07
