Edward or Edmund

Which one?
Edward is more common, so less likely to provoke a strong reaction.
Edmund still gives us the same nickname options, but it's less popular. Would you snigger at it though?

I love Edwin.

We picked Edward for one of ours names but changed it after a few weeks as it just didn't feel right...if dh had no say I'd have gone for Edwin!

We have an Edmund and an Edwin in our family and they are both pretty cool. Oh and a small Ned, who I think is just Ned (the other two are never shortened).

I think that there might still be a fair few Edwards about following Twilight so I'd be less likely to choose Edward I think.

All good names though.

I was going to say Edmund, but if Edwin is on the table, use that one! I love this name.

How about Eamon,it's the Irish for Edmund.

Edmund is fab. I like it more than Edward or Edwin.

Eustace - with any luck, he'll almost deserve it.

Actually I like Edmund (and he was a lot less annoying than Peter anyway).

Edward, with no silly shortenings to Teddy etc.

katienana · 07/11/2014 08:05

my dh is an Edmund. goes by Ed. I think it has a lovely musical sound to it.

GreatAuntDinah · 07/11/2014 11:41

I had a monster crush on an Edmund at school, but I'm going to have to go with Edward I'm afraid.

Eddie Cahill (Todd from Friends and CSI Manhattan) is an Edmund.

Frankly, if you were picking an Austen man to marry, I reckon he'd be a much better bet in terms of doing the 18thC equivalent of his share of the housework & childcare. Darcy, for example, would be too busy swanning around looking cool to notice if one of the dc's noses needed wiping or to help solve the problem if the nursemaid gave notice unexpectedly.

I couldn't marry Edmund due to the aforementioned drippiness but have previously given this thought and decided Henry Tilney from Northanger Abbey would be the best bet of all Austen's male characters. He has a sense of humour and I think that would go a long way when freezing your bum off in some draughty country house.

Edmund or how about Redmond!
