Boys names suggestions

Both DH and I can come up with loads, however we can agree on almost nothing...
He likes boring more traditional names. whereas I like things that are more unusual. Well maybe not so much unusual as less common, unlikely to be 3 other kids in the class with the name IYKWIM.
We are agreed that we want a list of a few, and not to really think about it until baby is here. we don't want the same initial as another sibling; my DS is J, his adult children are S and L.
I hate middle names, and don't particularly like shortening names and certainly not planning to shorten them.

The only ones which we have so far agreed are even possibilities are:-
Anghus
Percy
Robin (but both of us very ambivalent about this so unlikely)

I think one or the other of us has veto'd literally hundreds...
Can anyone add anymore that we haven't thought of?
TIA

I've never seen Angus spelt like that.

Bruno
Brodie
Hamish
Magnus
Marcus
Harvey
Herbie
Lawrence

Ian

Are a few which I think are similar to your suggestions

Mouthfulofquiz · 29/10/2014 12:14

I love Magnus. Also I think Gideon is nice and of the same kind of name. Angus is really nice too :-)

Cuppachaplz · 29/10/2014 12:20

stokey, i think it's just an older version - it was how my g.g. grandfather spelt it. He was welsh, so its possible this is welsh spelling/celtic spelling/Irish spelling/200 year old spelling.

Thanks for taking time and your suggestions.
They don't have to be similar, it's just that those were the only 3 that we had agreed on.
We initially like 'Rohan' too, but a friend used this a couple of weeks ago.
Others that we both sort of liked, but then removed from the list were;
Iwan
Gabriel
Caspar

I was thinking of hitting him with 'Loic' later

mouthful I love Gideon, but DH won't let me have Welsh name (unless I can find a way of sneaking one past him ;) ).
He ruled out Osian, Idris, and Islwyn too :(

Leonard?

Oops just remembered the 'L' name is a no!

tywysogesgymraeg · 29/10/2014 13:21

What is it with Percy at the moment? There are several threads discussing this as a potential boy's name. It's slang for penis (point percy at the porcelein), so a huge no in my book.

If you want Welsh names, how about Meredydd (my favourite all time ever Welsh boy's name), Rhodri (second favourite), Iolo, Caradog, Tudor, Cai, Carwyn, Geraint, Taliesin, or Guto?

Cuppachaplz · 29/10/2014 13:31

I know tywys what you mean about percy (I kind of preferred Parsifal), but given that there were only 3 we actually both like, it stayed, but probably won't...

DH won't let me have a welsh name, and I can't stand any of the ones he likes, that's kind of the point.
If I could have a welsh name, I'd go Brychan, Carwyn, Ashwyn, Merddyn, or Rhydian (and the others I listed) :(
All his suggestions are vile

finding I liked leonard (ish), he didn't
My brothers 6mo son is called Brodie. I was reminded of this when I suggested Bodhi

DH is a pain in the ass. Maybe I should just point out that he's decided the surname, so its up to me ;)

Sorry, just remembered, Fransis was another one we were both alright (isn) with
However, he went through a bit of a Rocky horror obsession and I'm worried that LO will become Frank'n'Furter forever more...

This is because his first suggestion was Richard Edward
Clearly he thinks I am stupid :O

Aneurin - now there is a gorgeous Welsh name. If I was even 1% Welsh I'd be using that one myself!!

Cuppachaplz · 29/10/2014 15:55

yes, I know, but I'm not allowed a welsh name!!!!!!!

OP It's great to want to remember your grandfather, but, just in case it matters, nowadays Aonghus or Aonghas is usually spelled in one of those two ways in Scottish Gaelic. I believe it is Aengus in Irish Gaelic. No idea about Welsh!
It may have been different in your grandfather's time, and you may still want to follow his way of spelling.
Best wishes, anyway!

acharmofgoldfinches · 29/10/2014 18:51

Could you sneak past Owen as a nice traditional English name that's actually Welsh?

Don't worry about Francis becoming Frank'n'furter OP. DH has managed to avoid that successfully for 40 years or so Smile
