Would it be silly to call our third DC an S name like DC 1&2

DD. & DS are called S names both of which can be shortened. Both names go very well together & I feel like DC three needs an S name to make all three sound right together.

We don't know if we are having a boy or a girl so I don't want to make decisions until after the birth.

DH can't decide either.

Advice please?

I think it is kind of nice, like a team. I used to know a family who all had names beginning with V, I like it.

I wouldn't. How will you explain to DC3 why you chose their name, not 'we really loved X and thought it suited you so well' but 'well we wanted your name to have the same letter as your siblings'.

It makes post difficult, their siblings will open their letters especially as DC3 is going to be the same sex as either DC1 or 2 so no distinguishing by title.

Also if you have another child they'll have to be S too and if you go on this could get difficult by DC10 you might be running short on S names.

Their names don't have to go together, nobody will use them together once they are adults and even before that only people who know your whole family well will notice.

Unless you really love an S name, don't and even then I would consider carefully and I say that as someone who has the same initial as my sibling. I don't think it was the wisest decision my parents' made but at least they claim they never noticed. I wasn't named just to fit a theme.

I'm torn on this. I have the same initial as DB and never really thought anything of it. But I also knew a Justin, Julie, Jackie and Jason when I was younger and that was just too many 'J' names! Perhaps 4 is the number where same initials gets a bit much...or it might be 3 ;)

I think if you have an S name you adore then do it but I wouldn't seek one out, they don't need to match.

Thanks for the replies! You all make great points. Maybe it is a step to far. I know a family of 5 that have the same initials so maybe it's best to break the trend now. We said we would stop at two kids & now we are considering 4 :)

I think I've found a name we can both agree on & it isn't an S name!

Mine and one of my sisters names starts with the same sound, but not letter (c and k), our younger sister's name starts with a different sound, I don't think she's ever thought about it, although appreciate it's not as obvious as if both our names began with c!

ElephantsNeverForgive · 27/10/2014 10:32

It is a break it now or you are stuck with it for number 4.

DD's friends youngest sibling (DC4) rhymes with the other 3, there was no alternative with a big age gap and the older three being already known as a set.

I would say go for a name you love rather than one that fits. 2 with the same is fine but 3 starts to get a bit Kardashian (or however it's spelt) imho. DD is an E name as is her half brother. I have decided against another E name for DC2

I would go for it
If you stop at three then you have one odd one out.
There are tons of lovely S names
