I really quite like Klaara Louise

Klaara was my great grandmother's name and Louise DH GM's name, neither of us were born in this country, but plan our future here so it's important that the name has family significance as well as not being regarded as strange here.

Both normal lovely names. You/she may get sick of explaining the spelling and that it isn't made up though, if that bothers you.

Klaara is a nice name but the spelling looks odd to British eyes. Could you anglicise it to Clara? Same name but less standing out?

MediumOrchid · 22/10/2014 16:20

It is a nice name, however, you will have to spell it to everyone! Everyone will assume it is spelt Clara. People may well think you have made the spelling up to be 'creative'.

If you're happy with that then go for it, it is a lovely and unusal name, otherwise would you consider using the spelling Clara to make the name more English?

squoosh · 22/10/2014 17:12

Is that a Swedish spelling?

If it's the spelling that's relevant to your heritage I'd just stick with it.

Lunastarfish · 22/10/2014 18:10

I would go for Klara spelling, double aa is just asking for explanations forever. But otherwise beautiful name

moxon · 22/10/2014 18:48

I'd also stick with the k but drop the second a. It's quite easy to say 'my name is Klara, with a k' amd have someone get it immediately, but more effort to add 'and two a's' as it would be somewhat confusing where that second a might go. Also, k isn't an unusual thing in the UK. We have Katherines and Katies and Karens and Kelly's galore!

Thanks!
Canging the spelling to Klara or Clara is a good idea, we'll probably do that just not sure which.

Actually my great grandmother was Estonian, but it could well be same spelling in Sweden.
