Casper or Spike???

Hi, I'm almost 38 weeks pregnant and since I was 3 months pregnant, we had settled on Casper as a boy name. But since last week, my DH is REALLY fond of Spike. He thinks it's adventurous, cool etc... I can't make my mind now, what are your thoughts?

What about 'Casper Spike' with Spike as the middle name?

hollie84 · 20/10/2014 19:03

Casper is an actual name (for a person). Spike is a dog's name, at best.

Albertatata · 20/10/2014 19:22

Spike

EatTheRude · 20/10/2014 19:25

Spike

Squirm · 20/10/2014 19:29

Caspar. Dislike CaspEr and Spike.

OttiliaVonBCup · 20/10/2014 19:46

Spike was real.
And he loved Buffy.

maitaimojito · 20/10/2014 19:49

My friend says she knows someone with a Spike, Rocky and Buddy (not dogs!). They just need a Buster now...

burgatroyd · 20/10/2014 19:52

I know a baby Spike. Now I love unusual names but that made me say to mum, 'On his birth certificate too?' Lovely lady but she did seem uncertain as she'd probably had my reaction a lot.

I prefer Spike to Casper though.

fuzzpig · 20/10/2014 19:55

Caspian?

ShadowKat · 20/10/2014 19:59

Spike would make me think you were Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans. And I'm pretty sure that Spike's original name was William something or other, so Spike was a nickname.

It just doesn't feel like a proper name to me. So I vote for Casper.

evertonmint · 20/10/2014 20:01

Spike is always Dexter Fletcher in Press Gang to me. I'm guessing I'm
10 years older than the Buffy fans :)

Go with Casper on BC. Spike is a good NN.

OttiliaVonBCup · 20/10/2014 20:01

shadowkat thank you!
I was just about to google that.

cremedecacao · 20/10/2014 23:40

I know a Spike- gorgeous little boy, and very cool! Great name!

moxon · 21/10/2014 05:38

Caspike?

moxon · 21/10/2014 05:42

I also know of a Rocky, first name on the BC. You must only hope they grow into it, because retiring socially awkward Rocky or bullying uncompliant Rocky is not as good a fit as outgoing friendful Rocky. In the long run.

cherrybombxo · 21/10/2014 10:20

ShadowKat Yep, William the Bloody, nicknamed because he favoured killing people with railroad spikes. Hardly a nice, fun nickname... Wink

TotleighTowers · 21/10/2014 13:12

I'd go for Caspar with two "As" (agree with Squirm on spelling; the -er ending is much less common than -ar, so it looks a bit odd somehow) as the first name and Spike as a nickname, assuming it suits his looks (spiky hair?) /personality. I don't think it would suit a shy, sensitive type. It reminds me of the vampire from Buffy as well.

SurfsUp1 · 24/10/2014 09:27

Casper over Spike for sure. What about Jasper?

AskYourselfWhy · 24/10/2014 10:07

As someone who actually named two of her kids after the Nieghbours dogs I am immune to any of the 'it's a dogs name' comments.Wink

I like both names a lot.

I don't like that Spike rhymes with a racial slur (Travellers) - I don't know if that matters at all though as lots of names rhyme with lots of things but it makes Casper a slightly better choice for me.

I know an adult Casper and it suits him brilliantly.

merrymouse · 24/10/2014 10:08

You have two children named Bouncer?

AskYourselfWhy · 24/10/2014 10:10

Grin Not exactly.....

merrymouse · 24/10/2014 10:11
Grin
Alisvolatpropiis · 24/10/2014 17:47

Rover and Duke Ask

I'm going to guess, seriously, that one is called Rex (great name!) but can't think of another.
