It's cute and unusual I think

In what way is it unusual and why 'for a girl????' in your title. It's a very typical girls name.

Squirm · 20/10/2014 19:58

It's used as a male name too. As is Kerry.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 20/10/2014 19:59

It was very common (in both ways) in the 80's.

squoosh · 20/10/2014 20:00

When I was young I thought Kelly was the most super glamorous name you could possibly have. It's a swishy haired cheerleader name.

A part of me still sees it as super glam. So take heart Kellys, we don't all hate your name!

wooooosualsuspect · 20/10/2014 20:01

Trampy? WTF?

Its very 70's 80's and similar to sharon or tracey

KellyElly · 20/10/2014 20:34

My name's Kelly and I'm not trampy thanks. Def more the glam swishy haired cheerleader category Grin I do think it's a bit dated for a little girl now though. Kerry, mentioned up thread is so much worse though. But if you like it, go for it!

I like Kelly! Much nicer than Sally suggested earlier.

ChutesTooNarrow · 21/10/2014 09:55

Gosh, I am glad that being named Kelly hasn't stopped me having too much class to ever declare a name is trampy Hmm

OP, I like my name but it was very popular in the late 70s/80s. I used to be one of five Kellys with a child at my sons preschool. So you probably won't find lots of children named Kelly but possibly lots of parents.

BlueberryWafer · 21/10/2014 10:08

Trampy?! Wow, how judgemental!

Choccyhobnob · 21/10/2014 10:26

I second Keely (but then I'm biased and you spelled it right!!) but the number of times it would be written as Kelly or Keeley or Keyleigh or Hayley Hmm would probably get on your nerves as much as it has mine for the last 30 years! lol

burgatroyd · 21/10/2014 11:09

Calli?

Or Kelly short for Kelila or Kelani. I also met a little girl called Kelda.

Squirm · 21/10/2014 11:34

Tee hee, I thought that may cause a stir :)
Yes, you're right; very judgemental.

SirChenjin · 21/10/2014 13:21

Was that your intention - to be judgemental and to cause a stir?

That is funny.

Squirm · 21/10/2014 13:45

I don't think one can intend to be judgemental. You either are, or you're not.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 21/10/2014 13:50

I'd say 70's rather than 80's but that's semantics! I also have issues when people prn it "Kally" rather than "Kelly", subtle but important to me. It's a pretty name, I like it.

RiverTam · 21/10/2014 13:52

it's very dated for a girl. I much prefer it as a boys' name.

EmberElftree · 21/10/2014 13:59

I went to school with loads of girls called Kelly (Scotland 1980's).

I know all kids will find something to take the p out of other kids but every time I hear the name I can hear the boys chanting:

Kelly smelly with the big fat belly at this poor girl in the playground.

Must learn to associate it with swishy haired cheerleaders instead!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/10/2014 14:01

Makes me think of Joni Mitchell's baby Kelly (Green) that she gave away for adoption. She wrote her song Little Green for her. Bloody heart rending stuff.

bigkidsdidit · 21/10/2014 14:07

I usually go for old lady names but I really rally like kelly. Much more than Kerry!

patienceisvirtuous · 21/10/2014 18:17

It's my name and I was named after a Charlie's Angel. It's therefore a kick ass name :o

DealForTheKids · 21/10/2014 18:19

Unfortunately too 80s for me, along with Kerry. Bizzarly though I like Ceri!

AmysTiara · 21/10/2014 18:47

I like it for a boy Smile

It's a bit 80's for me but I agree with a pp who said its better than the likes of Edna etc
