Baylor - middle name suggestions

WittyUsername102 · 14/10/2014 21:50

I understand not everyone will like this name but I feel you can still give suggestions even if you do not like a name.

Names already in use are:
Carissa Jane Emily
Daisy Jessica Madeline
Simon Johnathon May

Them all having a J middle name was not intentional, but I think we will likely continue it.

Thanks all in advance.

Is it a boy's or a girl's name? Either way go for something quite conventional so that if they don't like their first name they have the option to use their middle name.

So for a boy James or Joshua or John
For a girl, Jennifer or jasmine or Joanna

Not Jude as it can be used for either gender; the middle name should be one which will identify them as male or female

Awks · 14/10/2014 22:42

Every time anyone said; Hey, Baylor I would die laughing. But then again I'm from farming stock.

EnterNicknameHere · 14/10/2014 22:46

I've got to say the more I hear the name Baylor the less strange it sounds. I think it's growing on me! [ grin]

Please don't give the poor girl the initials BJ on top of a weird (sorry OP) name.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 14/10/2014 23:07

Awks I'm with you, but also with Solasum, we even take the piss out of a friend with a BJ postcode.

moxon · 14/10/2014 23:09

waves hallo to everyone!

Oh, and: Shock solasum well noted!

Solasum · 14/10/2014 23:22

Blush to have mentioned it, but...

OP, If you are set on Baylor, I think you would make your DD's life much simpler by going with the Bayla spelling suggested elsewhere. At least then both gender and your preferred pronunciation would be obvious on reading, even if she would still need to spell it for people.

Bayla Alexis Catherine
Ruth
Astrid
Lucy

GaryTheUnicorn · 14/10/2014 23:28

I can concur with solasum I'm friends with a Belinda Jane and she was "hilariously" known as blow job throughout school. She formally changed her middle name at 18 but due to her job also has to put down her old name on applications, they don't say blow job anymore but quite a few mention BJ with a wink wink and a snigger. It is humiliating.

You are already giving your child a name ripe for teasing, for god sake don't also lumber her with initials BJ, it is just fucking cruel and she'll hate you for it. Remember it is a real live proper person who will grow into an adult you are naming not just a sweet little baby.

How about Baylor Elizabeth? Something classic, no J and with a different end sound to stop it sounding singy songy. If she chooses to go by her middle name she has lots of options, Liz, Lizzie, Eliza, Beth, Libby, Izzie etc.

moxon · 15/10/2014 06:03

For all the Baylorians newly arrived on this mighty thread, who have been understandably mistaking the perceived gender attribution of Baylor, for clarity on etymology, please to be following this link:

Also, as for middle names, what about Baylor Rhotic [surname], witty?
Of course, you could (no wait, hear me out!) go for Laurel Juliet Baylor [surname], and call her Bay (or Leaf) for short?

TotleighTowers · 15/10/2014 06:38

I think it works with quite short middle names - Baylor Grace, Baylor Rose etc. (Or for more of a seventies/eighties vibe, Baylor Louise or Baylor Marie...) I know these are all super-popular for middle names, but with such an unusual first name you can probably get away with it. Other one syllable names (Jade?), or two syllable names with the stress on the second syllable (Joanne?) would also work.

I also like Baylor Juliet, or for something even longer, how about Baylor Josephine? Serious and classic but with lots of cute shortenings.

I don't think it works so well with names that end in a vowel (so no Jemma, Jemima, Jessica etc) or with names that end in a vowel - people would end up sticking in an 'r' so Baylor Amy would become Baylor Ramy, for example.

WittyUsername102 · 15/10/2014 07:19

Totally didn't realise BJ Blush, more surprised DH didn't realise! Anyway, thank you MN for pointing that out.
And sorry, should have mentioned DD not DS in first post.

DH is liking Baylor Elizabeth Grace. But with our surname that would be BEGR so I don't think that will work.

Oh and SunshineOutdoors, thanks for your replies Smile

WowserBowser haha thank you Smile

ClashCityRocker - Smile I do like Grace, just not sure what goes with it as another middle name (we don't have to use two but ideally would like to).

HavanaSlife · 15/10/2014 19:56

HavanaSlife · 15/10/2014 19:57

You have to go with grace now I was the first to mention it and nobody has ever gone with my choice before Grin

Emma Grace?

WittyUsername102 · 15/10/2014 20:19

Anytuing that's BEG won't work which is a shame because it does sound pretty Sad
