She's nearly here and we think we like this name? DM hates it but I can't see why.

To us it sounds feminine but she reckons it's harsh.

What say you mumsnet?

I like it!

Castlemilk · 12/10/2014 14:04

I think it's horrid - the No start is really grim, reminds me of names like Noreen and Norris - sounds oddly seventies. I would put it alongside something like Rita in terms of 'feel'. Not good.

And nickname - No? Noll? Hmm.

So many more lovelier names out there!!

However I remember there was a thread on this name a short while ago and most people seemed to like it, so look that up if you just want some good vibes :)

HenriettaTurkey · 12/10/2014 14:08

Fyi it's New Orleans' nickname (New Orleans Louisiana)

Don't know if that'll swing you either way, but there it is!

MrsBungle · 12/10/2014 14:09

I'm not a fan. How about nuala?

bindiboo · 12/10/2014 14:10

Don't like Nuala ... its like Noo Noo from teletubbies!

Nicknames would be Nolee or Nolly.

dementedma · 12/10/2014 14:12

I like it. Or go with Fionnuala with the nn Nuala

bindiboo · 12/10/2014 14:13

ooh and I like the name rita Wink Wink I must have 70s taste in names. My mum says it reminds her of sheila in 'feel'. but to me Nola seems like a feminine exotic lovely name not 70s at all!

Name of the (rather good) debut album by a heavy metal supergroup called Down, featuring Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity) and Phil Anselmo (Pantera) among others.

Therefore I think it is an awesome name.Wink

Castlemilk · 12/10/2014 14:30

It reminds me of the Nolan Sisters too...hmm maybe that's why it seems so dreary!

squoosh · 12/10/2014 14:35

I don't think it sounds exotic or feminine at all. Reminds me of the surname Nolan which isn't one bit pretty.

It's a very brown, sludgy name to me.

MrsLettuce · 12/10/2014 14:44

(I like Rita too)

bauhausfan · 12/10/2014 14:50

Ola? (Nigerian)

Pinkje · 12/10/2014 14:58

Why not Nora?

Artandco · 12/10/2014 15:00

I love Nola. Also love Nora and Nova

bindiboo · 12/10/2014 15:17

It doesn't remind me of Nolan because Nola has a very clear LA sound at the end of it.

Don't like Nora seems a bit old lady Smile Smile

It's so pretty and sweet x

KatieKaye · 12/10/2014 15:23

I love it!
very feminine indeed. Softer and sweeter than Nora. (Nova for me is the 60s/70s magazine, so very dated)
"Nola" is a famous piano piece by Felix Arndt, which I think was named for his wife.

Pantstootight · 12/10/2014 21:16

I know someone called Noelia, i think it's a lovely name and quite unusal too.
Everyone either calls her Noe, (no- eh) or her full name, but you could have many nn's ,Lia, Elia,Elli....
What do you think?

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 12/10/2014 21:17

Love Nola and nova

hollie84 · 12/10/2014 21:18

I like Nola, DS1 used to go to nursery with one. I also like Rita and Nora though!

KatieKaye · 12/10/2014 21:25

How do you pronounce Noelia?
No-lia?
No-ell-ee-a?
No-e-lia?
Nole-ee-a?

It looks very confusing to me and I wouldn't now what to say.

DertieBertie · 12/10/2014 21:41

Nola sounds like molar to me. Very dental!

Pantstootight · 12/10/2014 21:41

No-el-lia
It's Spanish, apparently.

Surfsup1 · 13/10/2014 08:15

To me it sounds like a character on Home and Away. Maybe Eileen's long lost sister?

Not good for me I'm afraid. Sorry!
