Hi peeps, my DS is Charlie (we never call him Charles), can I call my DD Anna or is that too like Charles & Anne Windsor? I think both names are so mainstream that it's totally fine but wanted to check with the MN jury!! Thanks!

I don't think I'd make that connection. The Royals generally use good solid names, so no surprise you have picked two of them!

fishfingerSarnies · 10/10/2014 07:33

I just had to Google Anne Windsor so not an issue for me, but I'm not very up on the royals.

MrsHathaway · 10/10/2014 07:33

As in the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal? Took me ages to work out the link!

Not a problem. At all.

Just don't then have a further two sons and name them Andrew and Edward. People might make a connection then.

moxon · 10/10/2014 08:53

Que? Wouldn't have crossed my mind.Hmm

DecaffTastesWeird · 10/10/2014 10:30

I would never make that link! Smile

WiseKneeHair · 10/10/2014 10:31

I know someone with a William and a Henry, so I think you're fine.

Legionofboom · 10/10/2014 11:32

I would make the connection with Charles and Anne but not Anna.

Vintagejazz · 10/10/2014 15:51

They're both very classical, traditional names. I'm sure they're shared by lots of siblings so I don't think the royal connection would jump out at anyone.

BonnieWeeJeannieMcCall · 10/10/2014 19:47

The connection wouldn't occur to me.

Aherdofmims · 10/10/2014 19:55

I really like Anna.

birdofthenorth · 10/10/2014 23:23

Of course you can. Just don't call her Diana or Camilla Grin

Bordersmummy · 10/10/2014 23:29

Would never ever ever occur to me that these names are connected to royalty in the parents' minds. And I'm fairly close to being a republican!!

BlueStarsAtNight · 10/10/2014 23:51

Definitely fine. Unless maybe your surname is Windsor.

WhiskeyTangoAlphaFoxtrot · 10/10/2014 23:56

wouldn't have made the connection. Specially as they're Charles and Anne not Charlie and Anna (lovely names).

I would roll my eyes at a Harry and a William though. That'd catch my attention as Royal.

squeak2392 · 11/10/2014 15:17

They're fine. Let's be honest, no one thinks about Princess Anne these days anyway.

Philoslothy · 11/10/2014 15:28

It is fine, Camilla or Diana might have been harder to carry off.

ShadowStar · 12/10/2014 05:35

No, it's fine. Not an immediate connection.

Charles and Diana or Camilla, now that would be too much of a royal vibe!

TheHorseHasBolted · 14/10/2014 22:56

I don't think anyone will notice. Anna may be closely related to Anne in origin but they have a very different feel and I don't think Anna has ever been used in the royal family, and if your Charles is usually known as Charlie, nowadays people may not even realise that's not his full name.

Anyway, I think naming two or more siblings the same as famous siblings would generally be a lot less obtrusive if they are all very classic, neutral sounding names. e.g. you could have a David and Richard without people necessarily thinking of the Attenboroughs, but Liam and Noel together would probably remind people of the Gallaghers!
