Eleanor and James?

I'm 25 weeks pg, and dp and I have become a bit stuck on names. James has been our favourite boys name from the start - and to be honest I think we'll probably go for this.

We've had a lot more ideas for girls names, and do like the more 'classic' ones like Eleanor, Isobel and Imogen. I love Eliza and Clara, but these have been vetoed by dp (no particular reasons, he's just not a fan). We seem to be settling on Eleanor, which I do like because of the various shortenings (Elle, Ellie, Nell etc), but I do wonder if it's a bit dull. Does anyone have any inspiration to help us out?

The baby will have a double barreled surname, 2 syllables in first surname, 1 in second.

Eleanor is my favourite girls name, if I were to ever have a DD, that would be her name. James is also fab, that is DS's middle name. Great choices.

Augustwedding · 08/10/2014 22:30

Lovely names, I like Eleanor but more particularly Ellen.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 08/10/2014 22:32

Two beautiful names. Eleanor is fab

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2014 22:36

Both lovely names. I wouldn't call Eleanor dull at all - and the all the various diminutives available to suit whatever character she might turn out to be, that's great .Smile

This might out me but....

I was meant to be called Eleanor because my parents loved how it could be shortened to Nel / i would have Little Nel as a nickname. Except when I came out I was a massive baby and my parents were really worried i would be a big child and get called Nelly the Elephant or, as my mother so nicely put it, Big Fat Nelly.

So I got a slightly less feminine name!

Nonetheless, I absolutely love it. And James for a boy is my favourite too! But just a cautionary tale Grin

Wise words! Thanks Queen Bean.

My mums name is Eleanor - rose :) and my ds's are Lennie and albie as my dads name is Leonard Albert so I thought I'd modernize the names a bit lol

kilmuir · 08/10/2014 22:53

Lovely

nickelbabe · 08/10/2014 22:58

Sophronia · 08/10/2014 23:39

I love both names.

Mammanat222 · 09/10/2014 10:53

We already have a James and I love Eleanor, OH doesn't like it so it's not on our list but good choices Smile

Bananice · 09/10/2014 11:07

I'm currently feeding my 8 day old Eleanor: I adore the name! Her big brother is William.

Other girls names on our list were Rose, Frances and Martha

Penguinsaresmall · 09/10/2014 11:13

I love Eleanor - that would have been DS's name if he'd been a girl.

James is a nice name but a bit too popular IMO; could just be that I happen to know lots of them myself though...

MiddletonPink · 09/10/2014 18:35

Lovely. Dislike Ellie though. Ruins a beautiful name imo.

MrsHathaway · 09/10/2014 18:40

I like both.

I prefer Helena which could still be Nell but wouldn't be Ellie.

hels71 · 09/10/2014 21:21

Eleanor is the best girls name ever. My Eleanor (7) is sleeping upstairs! She is always Eleanor, not shortened. Well not yet!!

ConcreteElephant · 09/10/2014 21:52

I love both names.

My cautionary tale is this - dead set on James for a boy. Boy duly delivered, DH takes one look and determines that DS 'doesn't look like a James' - whatever that means. Cue 5-6 days of fairly frantically finding another name!

dementedma · 09/10/2014 21:56

My favourite names. Dd2 would have been James if a boy. She is Ellen instead as dh wasdnt totally sold on Eleanor but I love it.

PamShoo · 10/10/2014 18:24

Love love love James!

Yzma · 11/10/2014 20:50

I have an Eleanor (not shortened). It's a beautiful, elegant name!
James is lovely too. Both timeless.

pilates · 12/10/2014 08:45

Eleanor is a gorgeous name, but I dislike Ellie.

Fissawissa · 12/10/2014 19:40

My DD is Eleanor but we spell it slightly different. We also don't shorten it down Smile

ElephantsNeverForgive · 12/10/2014 19:47

The DS I never had would have been James.

Eleanor is classic, no good to me because my dyslexic brain insists on miss spelling it, but that goes for most words with more than four letters. Yes I can misspell my long married surname, even after 24 years.
