Lucie or Rosie?

Hi,
I'm due in 2 weeks and we don't know what we're having. Think we are pretty set on Ted if it's a boy but struggling with girls names as we both have very different tastes!

I really like -ie sound ending names/derivatives, and names that you can create lots of nicknames/pet names from.
I think Nell would be a middle name after my late Grandad who was called Neil. I also always thought I would like Lucy as a middle name as it is my middle name and my dear Grandmother's name. We always discounted it as a first name as DH's sister is called Lucy and so is my cousin! However the more we think about it the more we quite like it and thought about perhaps changing the spelling to -ie at the end to avoid confusion. Although I know this is a MN no no!

Before we considered Lucy as a first name we also really liked Rosie.

So.. Is Rosie Lucy Nell (one syllable surname beginning with L) too much of a mouthful or would you go Lucie Nell L... even with all of the other family members called Lucy?

Blimey! Sorry that turned into an essay! Other contenders are Betsy (I like) and Libby (DH likes).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I think Libby Nell is really nice.

Justalittlebitfedup · 04/10/2014 10:23

I like Libby Nell as well (I have a Libby Grin)

I also love Rosie and like Lucy! Sorry not helpful, but you and your DH have excellent taste Wink

I think Lucie would still be too confusing because it sounds the same as Lucy. And Rosie Lucie Nell is a bit much. But I like Rosie Nell and Libby Nell, they're both lovely!

Thanks so much for your feedback. I do like Libby but I'm a primary teacher (which makes name choosing extra hard!) and taught one last year so that association is quite fresh still. It also doesn't have the family/friends connection that both Lucy and Rosie do. (One of my best friends is called Rosie.)
I know the Rosie Lucy Nell is a mouthful but was hoping that the full name wouldn't actually be said that much so it wouldn't be too much of an issue and it would mean I'd still get to honour both GP's. I guess I will have to wait and see, if it is a girl, if she looks like/suits anything in particular when she comes out.

Thanks again! Smile

Why is Lucie spelt this way a mn no, no?
I love it this way - isn't it the French spelling?
Much nicer imo

Because 'Lucie' will spend her whole life correcting everyone who (justifiably) assumes it's 'Lucy'!
What about Lucille instead? Then you could have Lucy as a nickname too.

BlueStarsAtNight · 05/10/2014 19:52

I love Lucy but with DH's sister being called that I wouldn't do it, whatever the spelling!

Rosie Lucie is too many 'eeees'. How about having Rosa Lucy Nell, so you can still call her Rosie as a nn? x

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 05/10/2014 23:45

Rosie Lucy does not flow, neither does Lucy Rosie. I agree with Blue too many eees
I like Rosie over Lucy.
I also like Betsy.
Lucy Rose is fine as is Rosie Lou
Betsy Rose and Betsy Louise are also nice.
Betsy Nell is lovely.

BackforGood · 05/10/2014 23:51

Def think it will be confusing if you call her Lucy/Lucie when that is her Aunt's name, as, when you are talking about one or the other, or referring to them, you aren't writing it down are you, so they are still the same name.
I also think she would be spending her whole life explaining to people, 'No, it's not L-U-C-Y' which would be annoying for her.

nooka · 06/10/2014 03:26

I would go for Elizabeth/Elisabeth if you like both Betsy and Libby as then you can have both, plus lots of other potential shortenings too. I like Nell as a nn but not as a full name, to me it looks a bit odd to have a nn as a middle name. So I'd choose Elizabeth Eleanor or Elizabeth Lucy. But I like longer more formal names on the BC with lots of options.

Rosy Lucy Nell to me just doesn't really work. I'd want to lose at least one 'ee' sound, perhaps use one of the longer Rose names? (Rosalind, Rose, Rosa, Rosamond?)

bouncingbelle · 06/10/2014 03:30

I love lucie and wouldn't mind at all if one of my neice's had the same name as me.

I think lucie also ages better- I think Rosie is a bit twee for an adult.

Lucie Nell is lovely :)

CheerfulYank · 06/10/2014 03:30

I think Rosie Lucie is too much. Rose Lucie Nell or Rosamund Lucie Nell is nice and could have Rosie as a nn.
