Please could I have opinions on this name. I think this is the most popular spelling (?) so that's the one I'd probably use. Nick name (if any) would be Freda.

It made me think of spaghetti, unfortunately Blush

bananaramma · 29/09/2014 15:33

I know a lovely Elfrieda. Prefer that spelling.

BananaToast · 29/09/2014 15:34

I also thought pasta, made by santa's elves. Sorry!

Mirandanuit · 29/09/2014 15:38

I'm going to have to investigate this pasta connection I see Grin I've never heard of it

Belongs in a category called Not Very Pretty Names along with Bertha and Helga.

bananaramma · 29/09/2014 15:56

I don't get the pasta connection either Confused

momnipotent · 29/09/2014 15:57

It makes me think of the Elves in the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit.

squoosh · 29/09/2014 15:58

Maybe people are thinking of fettucine alfredo?

momnipotent · 29/09/2014 15:59

I think the pasta connection is the similarity to Alfredo? Otherwise I am lost.

BananaToast · 29/09/2014 15:59

Pasta = Alfredo sauce. Think it's a bit like carbonara.

bananaramma · 29/09/2014 16:15

But why is nobody concerned about this pasta link when it comes to the name Alfred - that's much more similar imo.

Elfrieda sounds very different to my ears, as does nickname Frieda.

Mirandanuit · 29/09/2014 16:31

Oh so pasta connection is Alfredo? I couldn't find anything you see

exWifebeginsat40 · 29/09/2014 16:39

it's a bit...rectangular for me. why not just Freda/Frieda?

FelixFelix · 29/09/2014 16:40

I'd never ever make the connection to pasta! I like it. I like Elfie as a nn.

FarEastMovement · 29/09/2014 16:43

Is it pronounced 'Elf Reader'?

Like a kindle for the people of middle earth.

Mirandanuit · 29/09/2014 16:46

Yes Grin

FarEastMovement · 29/09/2014 16:47

Then I think it sounds like a kindle for the people of middle earth.

Sorry, not a fan.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 29/09/2014 19:10

My nan was Freda. (Winifred). I like Freda. I've heard quite a few around but not too keen on Elfreda

NotTheKitchenAgainPlease · 29/09/2014 19:12

I like it. It sounds a bit old English / Scandinavian to my ears.

mathanxiety · 30/09/2014 02:02

I love it -- I would spell it Elfrieda though.
