4 letter girls, strong, timeless girls names

Any suggestions for short, strong, punchy girls' names? I want something that is timeless, strong and short. I probably don't want an "ee" sound at the end as that sounds very girly to my ears. I would like it to be four letters long.

My current list is:
Anya
Tessa (5 letters! I really want four)
Nina
Rose

I like the following but probably would not use them as I don't feel they are timeless:
Lola
Iris
Juno

What do people think of my list and do you have other suggestions?

TIA

I also like Mali (Welsh form of Molly). I know a 6 yr old called Mali and she's ace!

I like Ruth and quite like Alys. Hope is also nice.

I think my shortlist, to talking to DH, would be:

Anja
Tessa
Nina
Rose
Nell
Beth
Ruth
Alys (?)

How would people rate these?

I think Ruth is the only strong full name out of those. Nell's good, but to me it's a nickname - short for Eleanor etc. Nina, Beth, Anja etc sound a bit wet to me - and Beth I think of as a nickname anyway.

Alys is a bit different. Second from your list I'd pick Tessa but drop the 'a'.

Hope is great btw.

Have just thought of a four letter strong name, Olga!

My favourite from your list is Alys, dollowed closely by Ruth (and my least favourite is Nell).

Have you considered Maud?

Other 4 letter names: Alex, Esme, Gale, Jill, Mari, Orla, Rosa, Vera.

(I also don't see why Iris is any more or less timeless than Rose).

From others' suggestions I like
Tess,
Beth,
Sara,
Tara,
and Ruth
I also do like Fern, but see that you don't.
I see no-one has yet added
Vera (a great favourite of mine),
Orla (another fave),
Rita,
Mara,
Opal (due a revival, perhaps?),
Pina (aka Pina Bausch, great and timeless German dancer-choreographer!)
Kara/Cara
Lisa
Also
Gita is a fairly popular Indian name, but not very common in the Anglo-Saxon world; I do know two non-Indian Gita's though
Also
Jesi
Dita
Soné
Ines (which I also love)
And some lovely, strong but feminine German-Dutch-Afrikaans names
Erna
Irma
Jana

Christinecagney · 29/09/2014 11:23

Ruth
Lois
Nell
Tarn
Alix
Alys
Lana

Helen (longer, but lovely)

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 29/09/2014 11:32

My least favourite from the list is Alys as I don't think it's a timeless name and could involve a lifetime of correcting people's spelling of the name.
I like
Anna
Emma
Ruth
Kate
