Dh and I really struggling to decide on names for DC2, due next week. He likes very traditional names (Oliver, William, Ben), I like slightly more unusual ones but still traditional (Ralph, Lawrence, Alec) . Pretty sure middle names will be Ludo Christopher for a boy and Jane Lorna for a girl and surname begins with Sh.
Can you help with some more suggestions?

I wanted middle name Frederick for ds but we went with Alexander which I think is a good sibling name for Frederick.

I love the name Frederick Grin

Here are some other names I also like which I think go with it...

Boy: George, Arthur, Edward, Stanley, Angus, William, Albert, Henry

Girl: Mabel, Florence, Agnes, Edith, Constance, Cecily, Elsie, Gwen

I would second Benedict. It's a bit unusual but it's traditional and it shortens to Ben which your husband likes. I also think Frederick and Benedict go quite nicely together.

Arthur

Thanks everyone! Keep them coming - it's reassuring to see quite a few from our shortlist on here.
Love Edward but worried about having Fred and Ed. Also Like Florence but we would sound like a family ad for tesco clothing range!

Can anyone suggest some really old fashioned English names, along the same lines as Ralph (pronounced Rafe)...

I have a Frederick, and it's lovely to see so many of the names we're considering for DC2 (Due in November) being suggested! I agree with you about Fred and Ed, Smorgs, and also sounding like a Tescos advert with Florence! Would also discount George, because of the Harry Potter connection.
I love Frederick and Lawrence from your suggestions.

clary · 28/09/2014 08:55

Oh yeah Fred and Ed not good lol an I hadn't thought of Fred and Florence either!! That's a shame :(

Fred and George is fine tho, I personally think the harry potter thing is neither here nor there.

If you want some old fashioned English names, check out this list of Elizabethan given names: Faire Names

Or, if you want to go older see here for some 13th century names (baby Osbert, anyone?) or here for some 15th century ones. If these are a little too old, try here for the Victorian list.
