Opinions on Lorrie for a boy?

I love Lorrie but hate the spelling 'laurie' as associate it with a female prev. colleague. Does Lorrie make you think of Lorry and could I use Laurence on birth cert with Lorrie as nn? Opinions please :)

Well as you've asked for opinions I will give one...

I think it would make you look like an illiterate loser. And he will spend his whole life with people spelling his name 'wrong'.

Personally I prefer Lawrence with a w, but we didn't use it for our boys in the end as we knew that half the population would spell it with a u.

looki · 23/09/2014 22:50

My first thought when I read your thread was of the boy in Little Women and I assumed you had misspelled his name.

The way you are spelling it makes it look like a nickname for the girl's name Lorraine.

melonribena · 23/09/2014 22:50

I agree with can't. How about Lawrence with nn Larry?

I don't think he'll thank you for 'Lorrie'. I also prefer Lawrence with nn Lawrie.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/09/2014 23:00

Love it but hate that spelling. If you hate Laurie use Lawrie. Though our friend who has that name goes by Loz - how does that grab you? Wink

charlieheather · 23/09/2014 23:01

I only preferred spelling Laurence as it is my grandmothers maiden name, but I like Lawrence too and do like Lawry/Lawrie although it seems a bit more of a mouthful than Lorrie/Laurie. Thank you for honest opinions though :)

Lovely name but DEFINITELY spell it Lawrence, nn Lawrie!

IHeartKingThistle · 23/09/2014 23:14

Oh and in 11 years I only taught 2 and they were both lovely gentle boys. So after that extensive research I can strongly recommend the name!

squeak2392 · 24/09/2014 00:36

I don't like that spelling of it (mainly because I remember pointing out lorries when I was very young), but I don't disapprove of the sound and like Lawrence.

Bartlebee · 24/09/2014 00:44

I know a 40 year old Laurence. He has always been known as Lol (lol)!

Please don't do Lorrie. It has to be Laurie or Lawrie.

hellokitty123 · 24/09/2014 06:53

Lawrence, nickname Lawrie!

Laurence is a girls name (female version of Laurent) and Laurie is way too feminine. Lorrie sounds like a truck!

Vijac · 24/09/2014 11:37

I think Laurence with nn Lorrie is fine but Lorrie on birth certificate looks like you can't spell.

OwlCapone · 24/09/2014 11:42

Truly awful.

BlueChampagne · 24/09/2014 13:15

If I remember my "Cider with Rosie" correctly, the poet Laurie Lee as known as Lol or Larry before he wrote as Laurie. Definitely go with Laurence/Lawrence on the birth certificate.

Ticklemonster897 · 24/09/2014 14:23

Adore Lawrence Laurence

I have a Laurie. He actually started off as Lawrie (DH preferred this spelling) but so many people pronounced it law-rie that we changed it! Obviously I love the name Grin

Quangle · 24/09/2014 15:39

love it but not the spelling.

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/09/2014 15:47

I think it's awful, sorry.

Floggingmolly · 24/09/2014 15:49

Shockingly crap.

CorporateRockWhore · 24/09/2014 15:55

Why would Lawrie be more of a mouthful than Lorrie? It's exactly the same. Confused

cherrybombxo · 24/09/2014 16:07

"Lorrie" is horrendous.

CommanderShepard · 24/09/2014 16:10

I've known a couple of Laurence-shortened-to-Lols too; and one Lolly which I still think is gorgeous.

mrstowers · 25/09/2014 11:31

Laurie is a name in itself as per the Cider With Rosie author Laurie Lee. Lorrie or Lorry is just plain ridiculous.
