We found out on Saturday we're expecting a second daughter, I always struggle with names, even on pets.

My husband really likes Rosie, I do like it but am aware of the huge trend to use Rose as a middle or hyphenated name and also worry it's a bit cutesy although she could use Rose when she is older.

I'm considering Jean as a middle so it would be Rosie Jean.

Love it! Not very common and you're right about using Rose when she's older :)

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 23/09/2014 21:01

Yes, it's lovely. Maybe Rose on the birth certificate and Rosie for everyday?

Leeds2 · 23/09/2014 21:18

Love Rosie. Not so keen on Rose.

melonballer · 23/09/2014 21:20

Rosa?

AnythingNotEverything · 23/09/2014 21:24

DH loves it. I'm not too sure. It feels too popular for me, but DD's name is outside of the top 1000!

How about Rosamumd, Rosalie or Rosalyn with Rosie for short?

rideyourbike · 23/09/2014 21:30

If I had had another little girl I would have named her Rosie. I have a friend whose little girl is Rosie, it's lovely.

dementedma · 23/09/2014 21:33

We have a Roseanna who is always Rosie. Apart from when baby Ds tried to say her name and came up with Dodies, which she still gets called today. She is 23!

IHeartKingThistle · 23/09/2014 21:38

Rosie Jean is fab.

TheHandmadeStaleBread · 23/09/2014 21:50

My sister is Rosalind, shortened to Rosie or Rose. Or dozy posy when I'm trying to annoy her...

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/09/2014 21:51

I have a Rosie so of course I love it! But I didn't name her as she is adopted. I do wish her birth certificate said Rose so that she could have a more grown up formal name for when she is older and applying for jobs etc.

ByTheWishingWell · 23/09/2014 21:52

I think it's lovely.

Itsfab · 23/09/2014 21:56

Rosie is lovely. Rosie Jean goes better than Rose Jean imo.

Just pick a name you like and use that. I don't see the point of knowingly registering your child with a name you aren't going to use. What is the point?

Perissa · 23/09/2014 21:58

I am a Rosie and I've never thought about it being a childish name. Never occured to me to use Rose as I got older.

RiverTam · 23/09/2014 21:59

Rosalind is very lovely. Rosie always reminds me of a Gerald Durrell book called Rosy is My Elephant.

I love Rose too but I'm one of those ghastly sorts who has Rose as DD's middle name (her first name is even more popular, I should think most MNers would have a heart attack if I revealed it).

I think Rosie is gorgeous and is on my list of fave names for girls :) Xxx

squoosh · 25/09/2014 15:05

I prefer Rose but Rosie is nice on a little girl. There's a great Tom Waits song called Rosie, so that's very much in its favour.

Dogsmom · 26/09/2014 19:33

Sorry for delay replying, our house is toxic at the moment with a d&v bug and I've spent every spare moment cleaning up sick, poo or snot.

Rosie seems popular which is good, I did consider Rose for the birth certificate but with Jean as a mn and a one sylabble surname it doesn't flow smoothly, I do like some of the longer versions but worry it'd be shortened to Roz and not Rose.

We've been referring to her as Rosie in conversation this week and it does feel like it fits.

Love Rosie! You could use Rose or Rosa or Rosanna for full name, all nice. Rosie Jean reminds me a bit of Billie-Jean - maybe bad? You could have 2 middle names to break them up perhaps.
