I've just POAS and found I'm expecting DC3. In total shock. So, I figure I'll start a baby name thread! :o

We already have Samuel (7) and Margaret (almost 16 months) mostly called Sam and Maggie, so I sort of would like to continue the formal name with nickname trend.

Also I am sure it is a boy. :o

Some names I like and were on our shortlist for the others were Jack (doesn't really go with our surname, but would if I went for Jackson), William called Will, and Alexander called Alec. We loved Charles/Charlie but a close friend is using that. Also briefly considered were Nathaniel/Nate and Benjamin/Ben.

Our surname is the same as a certain "journalist" who thinks she's gorgeous, married to a Frenchman? Wink

For girls I like Phoebe, which doesn't fit with the nn thing, or Phillipa/Pippa, which does.

Ned B-- sounds too much like Red B-- imo, similar for Fred, Ted, Ed and other names ending in "ed"

MummyBeerest · 23/09/2014 02:16

Fair point. It's me, I'm just into Ned these days.

Max. Max B---- is a guy I'd like to know.

CheerfulYank · 23/09/2014 03:03

I love Max but would like to stay away from repeating initials if possible.

I think it's a boy because I'm achy and fevery like I was with DS, not slammed with nausea like DD.

You know what, I blame Kate Middleton. We were pregnant at the same time last time... :o

Congratulations! I have a Philippa/Pippa and love it, so I'd say that's a good choice. :)

What about James nn Jem for a boy?

Legionofboom · 23/09/2014 11:02

Congratulations Grin

I love Sam and Maggie.

Alec is lovely but I'm not sure about it with your surname.
Same with Ben.
Somehow William/Will seems a bit bland with your other names (but that might just be me) William is a good, solid choice.
I like Nathaniel/Nate best from your list but I like Edward or Theodore and Ted best of all.

For girls Philippa/Pippa is nice.
What about Louisa/Lulu?

Fenton · 23/09/2014 11:09

Congratulations lovely!

I don't think Alec goes with the surname although I do like the name.

Nathan/Nathaniel I like.

Surfsup1 · 23/09/2014 12:44

Willbur/William/Billy/Will
Alistair/Al
Edward/Edmund/Teddy
Timothy/Timmy/Tim
Andrew/Andy

Charlotte/Charlie/Lottie
Harriet/Hattie
Penelope/Poppy/Penny
Jospehine/Josie/Jojo

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 23/09/2014 12:54

Oh! Wow! Congratulations!

Umm.. Dorothy nn Dotty
Joseph nn Joe?

CheerfulYank · 23/09/2014 13:13

Thanks Psam! Those squeaky bedsprings will get you every time Wink

Some names which are probably out due to family members are Anne/ie and Kate (gutted as I love both of those), Joseph, and and El name.

I do love Louisa/Lulu Legion! Thanks. That was on our lost for DD but I'd forgotten.

I'm liking Caleb but DH doesn't.

William and Thomas seem like frontrunners for boys with DH but I'm not sure. I'd like something a little more unusual but still classic.

I love Archer/Archie but DH gave me a complete Hmm face so I guess that one's out!

CheerfulYank · 23/09/2014 13:14

Any El name, I mean :)

I do really like Nathan but it's been slightly ruined by a teenager I worked with. Nice kid, clever in a book way, but oh so thick in the area of common sense. I used to want to bang my head on the wall every time he walked in :o

Purpleflamingos · 23/09/2014 13:30

Congratulations.
Stanley/stan
Henry/Harry

moxon · 23/09/2014 13:30

I love surfsup's suggestions of Hattie and Josie, especially Josephine/Jocelyn nn Josie, if a girl. Tam as short for Thomas came up in the 'jock' thread, and that might work for a boy?

Castlemilk · 23/09/2014 13:31

Definitely Josephine (Josie), and Barnabas (Barney) is one that I am always surprised isn't more popular.

Sam, Maggie and Josie

Sam, Maggie and Barney

mrdaykerry · 23/09/2014 14:01

Congratulations!

My grandmother was called Dorothy, which was shortened to Dulcie. Dotty would also work.

moxon · 23/09/2014 14:02

Oh wait Tam and Sam together sounds ridiculous. Ignore! :) (but stick with Josie though!)

mrdaykerry · 23/09/2014 14:07

In fact my grandparents had 6 girls...

Josephine (Jo)
Patricia (Pat)
Jacqueline (Jackie)
Micheline (Mickey)
Christine (Chris)
Teresa (Tel)

KatherinaMinola · 23/09/2014 14:11

I like Jennifer with your surname.

WowserBowser · 23/09/2014 14:15

I remember your 'Margaret' thread! Was shocked to see it was you again - but time has flown by! 16 months - wow. Congratulations!

hlc123 · 23/09/2014 14:18

Tobias (Toby)
Alfred (Alfie/Fred)
Oliver (Ollie)

Harriet (Hattie)
Charlotte (Lottie)
Florence (Flo/Florrie)

Congratulations!

CheerfulYank · 23/09/2014 18:44

Wowser I'm quite surprised myself! :)

I do like Oliver but DH doesn't. I also like Henry but not any nicknames for it.

MummyBeerest · 23/09/2014 21:28

Harry (your surname) sounds like a bad euphemism. Sorry.

Oscar. Bring it to the US. Ozzy as a nn.

Ticklemonster897 · 24/09/2014 14:28

Primrose

CheerfulYank · 24/09/2014 14:51

I love Primrose! I tried to push for it for DD:s middle name but it's just Rose. So I think Primrose is out.

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 24/09/2014 14:52

I also like Oscar Beerest but I think it's not usable in my part of the States yet :(
