Thoughts on the name Alethea ?

Haven't heard of it before, and not really sure. It feels a little clumsy when I say it.

How about Althea or Anthea?

FrogsGoWaaa · 21/09/2014 00:09

Not sure. Makes me think of Athena which seems to flow a little better I feel.

softlysoftly · 21/09/2014 00:12

Use it! My favourite auntie was called this but our surname prevented it.

It's actually one of the "virtues" a very old Greek name meaning truth.

ZenNudist · 21/09/2014 00:18

Just sounds like a twilight style hybrid name (Alex meets Anthea Etc)

A lifetime of 'what now?' and constants spellings, explanation of name origins. Not a nice thing to do to a child.

minsmum · 21/09/2014 00:21

It's a beautiful name. I knew a girl with that name a few years ago she was lovely

Sarahplane · 21/09/2014 00:34

When I pronounce it in my head it sounds like Alicia said by someone with a lisp sorry.

burgatroyd · 21/09/2014 08:26

I knew a Spanish one. I loved her name! Think it will get mixed up with other names though

MarmiteChocolate · 21/09/2014 08:56

my slimming group leader a few years ago was called Aleta, which I always thought was pretty.

elfride · 22/09/2014 21:03

I know one. She's cute and lovely (aged 3). It means truth, which I think is a lovely meaning. Go for it!

Anjou · 22/09/2014 21:51

It's pretty. It makes me instantly think of His Dark Materials, which is a good thing. (Giving her the middle name of Lyra - beautiful name though it is - might be a bit much though!)

cece · 22/09/2014 21:55

It was on our list for DC2. He was the wrong colour though. Still love it.

Bowlersarm · 22/09/2014 22:01

Really dislike it. Like you are trying to say Alicia with a lisp. Sounds very clumsy and wet.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/09/2014 23:18

I like it but prefer Athena as suggested upthread.

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 22/09/2014 23:24

Alithia Thilverthtone thpringth to mind. Thorry.

DramaAlpaca · 24/09/2014 18:50

I find it much too lispy as well. Sorry.

AuntieStella · 24/09/2014 18:52

I think it's a wonderful name (I like just about all the Greek classical names)

MollyBdenum · 24/09/2014 18:55

I like it.

GRW · 24/09/2014 21:55

I know a 5 year old with this name, and think it's lovely. Like Athena too.

temporarilyjerry · 26/09/2014 21:39

Beautiful name. Much more interesting than Alicia. Great meaning. I like it. Grin

playftseforme · 26/09/2014 21:40

Friend's dd has this name, lovely.

SecretNutellaFix · 26/09/2014 21:44

Love the name. I have a friend whose name this is- her main complaint is that people call her Althea or Anthea.

It has a beautiful meaning too.

PuggyMum · 26/09/2014 21:48

I know an Alethea (grown up).

I think it's a lovely name.

whycantifindaname · 27/09/2014 07:08

Love it, love it, love it. Use it!

nooka · 27/09/2014 07:21

One of my grandmother's greatest friends was called Alethea, she was a rather grand old lady and I think it is a lovely name.

It does have two pronunciations, one is like Alicia with a bit of a lisp (Al-ee-th-ia) and the other is much stronger sounding (Ali-th-ay-a) she used the later version. I'm not very good at pronunciation writing though, so I don't know how much sense that made! This might be more understandable www.pronouncenames.com/search?name=alethea

I knew a lovely beautiful girl with this name when I was in uni. I think it is beautiful.
