What do you all think of Polly Elizabeth or Ted Alastair...really struggling and 39 weeks pregnant, husband is busy trying to finish an extension and is being useless in the decision making.....is Ted just too short? I'm not keen on Edward but realise it might be more sensible in the long run...

I think Polly is ok, Elizabeth is beautiful (I have a DD with this as her first name so I am biased)

I like Ted Alistair too Smile will you use Teddy as a nn?

Gemerama82 · 19/09/2014 22:02

Personally I would go with Edward nn Ted. You don't ever have to call him Edward. My name is Gemma but I am rarely called that (unless I'm in trouble). I'm Gem to my friends and family.

Polly and Edward both good names.

Good luck! X

Ijumpalot · 19/09/2014 22:11

Thank you! Yes would use Teddy as a nn as a baby/little one. Take your point about the longer name, tis difficult though as I feel as though we'd be giving him a name we don't really like...even though it might not be used

Ted/Teddy can be short for Theodore. Do you prefer this to Edward?

VainVulva · 19/09/2014 22:13

Beautiful names, and lovely combinations!

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/09/2014 22:14

I love Polly Elizabeth, but not so sure on how Ted Alistair flows.

Polly or Ted.Thats how they'd be used in practice.

Both lovely!

ColdCottage · 19/09/2014 22:14

Agree, lovely girls name either way round.

I'd use Edward then use Ted and Teddy which I just love. Nice to have the choice to be Ed or Edward if they want, not many choices with just Ted.

Let us know what you have and which you go with. Both strong but friendly names Smile

LadyWithLapdog · 19/09/2014 22:14

Theodore could be a Ted. I like Elizabeth and would use that as first name. Polly sounds a nn.

micah · 19/09/2014 22:15

You've got 40 days post birth to make your mind up :)

I didn't confirm either of our names until the day we went to the registry office...

Ijumpalot · 19/09/2014 22:37

lady and oubliette I do prefer Theodore, although it makes me think of the cartoon series 'the chipmunks' Grin, love Elizabeth too but not keen on liz or lizzy and it would be Sod's law that her nn would end up as that!
Also love...
Elena (ella as nn)
Alice
Bella ? Way too done?
Clara
Ash (boy...again too short?)

Thanks again, this is extremely helpful!!

Polly Elizabeth is lovely.

I'm not a fan of single syllable names or nns as full names, so I would advise against Ted, but Ted Alistair is good as a combo.

There are some names where I have loved the nn but not the full name (or vice versa), but as I started to associate the name with my child (in my head - no kiddies here yet) I start to like it. Maybe you could try to think of him as Edward/Theodore with the nn Ted instead of just Ted (even if you will only ever call him Ted). If you associate the name with someone you love, you may just come to love the name itself. Like someone said, you have so long after the birth, so you can do it then if it's easier.

Ijumpalot · 19/09/2014 22:39

micah very true! Will remember that, my DM is very vocal about what she does and doesn't like and I can see Ted being said in an incredulous tone.....

Good advice squeak...we have a Henry already and he so suits his name, he's got brilliant initials too.. HRH, which give his name a little edge to it and which people seem to love. Henry and Theodore sounds good I think, maybe Henry and Edward is a bit too regal esp with the HRH!

camtt · 19/09/2014 22:45

don't worry about your DM. Mine was incredulous about my choices for the two babies whose names were chosen without her input. But she got used to them and admitted later that she quite liked the names now.

Ijumpalot · 19/09/2014 22:56

Thanks camtt will just ignore her! Hmm and enjoy the baby snuggles Wink

Polly is a diminutive of Mary

TheCharWoman · 19/09/2014 23:13

Polly and Ted were our top choices! They are brilliant names and I love your middle name too. I am cradling baby Theodore (Teddy) as I type Smile

Ijumpalot · 20/09/2014 01:03

Congratulations on your little boy thecharwomen ! You have impeccable taste Wink,
Did you call him Teddy from the beginning?
I just love it, so adorable!

I prefer Theodore to Edward. Also like the nn Theo.

However I don't see anything wrong with Ted on BC. I have a short name and I love its simplicity and how its easy to sprell. Friends always lengthen it tho!

Guin1 · 20/09/2014 13:20

We have a ds Teddy too (2 years old). He is Edward on bc, but no-one ever calls him that so he has no idea that is actually his name. He would associate Edward with Thomas the Tank Engine, but not with anything else. We aren't planning on ever calling him Edward, but it does give him options if he ever decides he doesn't want to be known as Ted/Teddy and in the end, the most important thing is that the name works for him, not us. I also think that Edward Alastair flows really nicely, definitely better than Ted Alastair.

Theodore is also a great name and again gives options for him besides Ted/Teddy.

TheCharWoman · 20/09/2014 13:50

Theodore is on the bc. We're introducing him to everyone as Ted. But i seem to have started calling him Teddy Smile

DH calls him chipmunk!

Ijumpalot · 20/09/2014 19:15

Thanks all, good point guin about the name being for him not us, I hadn't really thought about it quite Bought this recently second hand but haven't had a chance to wear it! Very pretty and in great condition that way! thechar very sweet, love that. Glad to see there are a few Ted/Teddys around. I really do love it...now to see what this baby is! I'm definitely nearing bursting stage although not mentally ready due to all our house DIY madness!
