Girls names are impossible, please help!

As my title states, girls names are impossible!
I am nearly 30 weeks pregnant, had two boys names decided right from before I even got pregnant, but..... you've guessed it, I am having a girl!!
Girls names wise, I've had a few ideas. I want a name that is solid, will age well, and isn't too trendy.

My current ideas:
Florence (nickname Florrie) - family name of someone I was very close to.
Darcey - inspired by Darcey Bussell, whom in my opinion is an amazing dancer, feels like strong sturdy name but maybe too masculine
Arabella - Recently heard this one, and kind of felt attracted to how beautiful it sounds. But is it too frilly and would it inevitably result in nick name Bella which is Uber popular right now!!

If you could let me know what you think of my ideas so far and suggest any other names you think I may like. Just in case it helps my two boys names are Noah and Zach.

Thanks.

Florence is lovely.
Abigail
Isobel
Charlotte
Beatrice

Noah and Zach are both Christian names. Not sure if you went for them for religious reasons? Either way, maybe stick with the theme? Ruth (Ruthie when she is small) or Judith (Jude) maybe? Eve/Eva/Ava? All quite solid I should think, but still attractive.

Kantha · 19/09/2014 14:47

Hmm, I wouldn't use the word trendy but I do think that Florence, Darcey (and Noah) are all fairly of the moment which you say is what you want to avoid. Florence is much more of a classic name that is just having a popular few years right now so won't be a future 'Tracey' which Darcey may yet turn out to be.

I agree that Arabella is very pretty but is a bit frilly for me. Not a 'solid' name if that is what you want.

Sorry I'm not helping much and just being critical. It's just that your names don't seem to fit with your criteria. Do you want alternatives suggested?

VainVulva · 19/09/2014 14:48

I like Florence but it is sooo popular at the moment and will date.

Darcy is ummm.....how shall I put it....common.

Arabella is pretty but overly frilly for my taste!

Noah and Zach were not chosen for their religious nature, they have always been firm favourites of mine.
And by trendy names I mean names like Millie, Molly, Macie, Lily, Maisie, Poppy etc.

In keeping with your sons' Old Testament names:
Rivka or Rebecca

BunnyLebowski · 19/09/2014 15:39

I'd choose Florence. Florrie is gorgeous and the family connection makes it a more meaningful choice.

Dislike both Darcey and Arabella.

Arabella is too frilly and posh and Darcey is...um....how shall I put this...the opposite of posh.

Tovi · 19/09/2014 15:42

What about Annabell?

Out of your choices I like Florence and Darcey.

babyblabber · 19/09/2014 19:22

I have a Noah (& Sophia) and have Arabella on my list for number 3 but don't think we'll use it. It's so pretty but a bit "too much" iykwim.

Our list at the moment is:
Chloe
Rebecca
Annabel
Amaya
Penelope

Finding it so so hard this time!

ashesandfire · 19/09/2014 19:49

I don't like any of your names if I'm honest. I think Darcey will date, and in any case I think of it as too masculine (Mr Darcy etc!) I think Florence is very trendy at the moment and so doesn't fit your criteria. Arabella I've always seen as a bit pretentious/social climber-esque!
Biblical names to fit with Noah & Zach - Esther, Naomi, Lydia, Abigail, Rebecca, Leah, Dinah, Delilah, Elizabeth?
Other names - Charlotte, Alexandra, Emma, Rose, Sophie, Celia, Francesca, Harriet, Eleanor, Catherine, Meredith.

burgatroyd · 19/09/2014 20:22

I love Amaya! babyblabber

How about Beatrice, Esme, Tanaquil (ballerina) Christabel (suffragette) Damaris, Peggy, Veronica.

Out of your list Florence is nicest

RiverTam · 19/09/2014 20:25

how is Noah a Christian name when it's from the Old Testament????

Florence is OK, though Florrie isn't.
Darcey is nice.
Hate Arabella, too 80s Sloane Ranger for me.

mistyegg · 19/09/2014 20:41

Georgia/Georgina
Vivienne
Clara
Imogen
Victoria

Nothing is standing out as the name..... not the right name. I have searched and I become fixed on a name, but then it never feels like the "right" name. Where as in comparison Noah and Zach were names I absolutely loved for years and has never changed.
Other girls names I have considered are Edie, Connie, Hattie, Amelia (too popular), Harriet (friend name daughter this). Along with Florence and Arabella. Darcey is a name they came to me I a dream, dreamt about having a little girl and naming her this. But my concern is I have a unisex name (that is also a nickname but never had an issue with having a nickname and getting a proper job) and have always thought maybe when I have a girl I should give her a really girlie name. Oh my this is way too hard!!!!!!!!!

How about Noah, Zach and ... Lara Smile

birdofthenorth · 19/09/2014 21:42

Connie is fab. I vote Noah, Zach and Connie. Barrie would work well too.

sidorek · 19/09/2014 22:23

I can share my girl's names idea (guess what, I am having a boy! :)
Nina
Iona
Isolda
Karina

charlieheather · 21/09/2014 18:36

Jessica will age well. Some pretty names struggle to be practical later on. Florence is lovely however. Beatrice (bea for short?)

dancestomyowntune · 21/09/2014 18:46

See all of your names stand out as being quite popular where I am. I know several Florence's, several Darceys and two Arabellas. Having said that, Arabella isn't shortened to Bella, unlike all the Annabels I know!

What about...

Fiona, Dannika, Polly, Selina.

Delia, Zoe, Louisa?

Bellyrub1980 · 21/09/2014 18:51

Florence and Hattie are my favourites from what you've suggested so far.

Is Hattie short for something in your case or a name in it's own right.

I think I lean towards Florence. Probably because I know a little girl (4yrs old) with that name and she's full of mischief and character. Suits the name totally!

Bootoyou2 · 21/09/2014 18:55

How about Elizabeth. Strong name with so many nicknames and girlie ones too.

babyblabber · 21/09/2014 19:12

thanks burgatroyd. I've loved Amaya for years ever since meeting a little girl who was half Spanish in DS's crèche. now that i'm pregnant though am having a wobble but hearing things like that make me put it back at the top of the list!

OP I know exactly how you feel. with my first two I adored both of their names and have a boy's name this time I love as much but after 5 months of searching I can't find a girl's name I feel as much in love with. I like all the ones on our shortlist but not sure I love any of them. so hard!!!!

Bellyrub1980 · 21/09/2014 19:15

I too always imagined that when the time came to pick a name there would be 'the one'.... But there isn't! I've ended up massively over thinking my choices and not they're all just sounds to me!!!
