Time to make a decision now as getting close, will see what she looks like but DH loves Abigail but I think it's become a little bit chavy recently. Olivia is nice but very popular and what can you shorten it too?

Votes please ladies.......Middle name is Charlotte after DH gran.

I have never thought of Abigail as chavy, have never really heard it at all in recent years so would prefer it over Olivia for that reason as I hate really popular names. Although where you are Abigail may be more chavy.
Both sound nice with Charlotte. Maybe wait till you see her You might just know what feels right.

Pandora37 · 16/09/2014 12:02

I prefer Olivia but I wouldn't say that Abigail is chavvy at all. I guess Livvy is the go to nickname...maybe Oli?

UriGeller · 16/09/2014 12:02

I have a bit of prejudice against Abigail. I don't like the sound of it and an abigail originally meant 'a lady's maid'. Which isn't what I'd want for my daughter!

Olivia, on the other hand, is mellifluous and sounds like a strong name. Liv is a cool nn too.

Thanks guys, I think because my 'chavy' cousin recently called his baby girl Abbie it put me off a lot!

Olivia. I've never liked Abigail because it has 'big' in it, which is obviously very odd of me, but there you go.

PrettyLittleMitty · 16/09/2014 14:26

Olivia for me, although I think Abigail is pretty too.

cherrybombxo · 16/09/2014 14:37

Olivia is my top choice for a girl name so I obviously pick that! Grin

AdorableAbbie · 16/09/2014 16:10

I vote for Olivia too.. then oli for short!

squoosh · 16/09/2014 16:13

Definitely Abigail, nice old name with a nice soft sound.

Olivia is boring.

squoosh · 16/09/2014 16:13

Although Liv is nice.

lavendersun · 16/09/2014 16:16

Abigail originally came from the Hebrew Avigail which means 'fathers joy', so you can ignore the later meaning of 'maid'

DecaffTastesWeird · 16/09/2014 16:44

I know lots of people say it's too popular, but I really like Olivia. NNs Liv, Livvy, Vee maybe?

marmitelover · 16/09/2014 16:47

Don't like Abigail at all, and the nickname will alway be Abi or Abs at school so you have I think if you like that. Olivia can be Liv or Livvy or Olly.

Sophronia · 16/09/2014 22:51

I also don't like Abigail because it has 'big' in it, 'a big ail'

Olivia is very popular, but it is nice.

DramaAlpaca · 16/09/2014 22:53

Olivia is lovely.

I don't like Abigail much, although I do like the original Hebrew meaning.

areyoubeingserviced · 16/09/2014 22:58

Don't like Olivia at all.
It is a name that is overused
There are three in my dds class and four in my ds's class. All in the same primary
Abigail is lovely and I do like the Hebrew meaning.
Don't like the shortened version though Abby etc

bringonyourwreckingball · 16/09/2014 22:58

I like both, one of mine is an Abigail and the other has Olivia as a middle name although it wouldn't suit her as a first name. In their very middle class and very large school there are a couple of others of each so not unusual but not the Martha/maisy/poppy there are four of them in each class

Allalonenow · 16/09/2014 22:59

Of the two, I prefer Olivia. I think the nn are nice also, Liv Livia Livy.

I think Abigail, though pretty, is a bit old fashioned and I'm not fond of Abbie as a nn.

Guin1 · 17/09/2014 16:44

Prefer Abigail. Olivia is too popular, plus Oliver is very popular too, so lots of Olly's all round.

LizzieMint · 17/09/2014 16:47

My DD's middle name is Olivia, so that gets my vote, although it is rather popular round here. (my other DD's middle name is Charlotte - you have good taste! Wink)

If the popularity thing bothers you, you could go for Charlotte Olivia?
