AIBU to still like my trashy baby name, and regret not using it?

Indigo.

There. I said it.

People told me I liked it only because I was pregnant and hormonal. No-one else liked it. Then, DD was born and was a bit of a shock as we thought we'd have a DS (no scan info, just 'I was carrying that way' and so many people said it that it became accepted). I still liked Indigo but no-one liked it and I / the world blamed it on hormones.

DD is nearly 1 and I STILL like it. But she has an 'I' name so I can't call the 'next one' Indigo.

Please tell me it's a trashy name, and to get over it. I still pang!

I was really tempted to call DD Tyler just to prove a point

It will date horribly, so that by the time she's 7 she'll feel old and frumpy. She will be teased about it, even by her best friend, and grow to hate you for the poor decision you made. At 18 she'll change her name to Jane, relocate to the other side of the country and refuse all contact with you, except to send one copy of the astronomical cost of therapy required to help her deal with the childhood trauma of such a name.

That, or she'll run away with the circus when she's 13.

Either way you'll never see her again, and all because you chose a trashy name.

Does that help?

minkah · 13/09/2014 00:54

Does it really matter that some of us are conservative about names?

If you like something non mainstream, go for it. If your child doesn't like it, they'll change it, or get called a nickname, anyhow.

minkah · 13/09/2014 00:57

It depends what your surname is.

Indigo Snodgrass.

Just doesn't fit, somehow.

Indigo Bieber.

Seems fine!

almapudden · 13/09/2014 01:02

I like inigo! But I have always wanted a boy called Blind Willie Tuesday (he plays the blues), so I may not be the best judge :D

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 13/09/2014 01:07

Oh shit. Latte, are you Hopkins?

God no, I'd never put my children in matching clothes Grin

burgatroyd · 13/09/2014 08:48

Was the ithger I name you went for Imogen?

Indigo is OK. Its not fab or trashy.

Cocobelle is fab and trashy!

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/09/2014 08:51

Indigo is lovely, for a boy or a girl.

HavanaSlife · 13/09/2014 08:55

Im not keen, especially for a boy. Do like tyler for a girl though!

bringbackfonzi · 13/09/2014 22:25

I nearly called one of mine Indigo. I think it's more hippy than trashy.

Mutteroo · 13/09/2014 23:04

Indigo isn't a trashy name - it's bloody brilliant!

Sorry OP, can't help you in your search and also don't see a problem in you using it for your DC2 unless DC1's name is too similar to it.

Kaekae · 13/09/2014 23:08

I wouldn't say it was trashy...a little out there but in a good way. I hate popular names at the moment (my son has a very popular name) and so I am all for names that are a little different.

mathanxiety · 13/09/2014 23:40

Indigo isn't trashy. It's deeply woo.

India is ok.

I don't know why you 'can't' have another child with the same initial.

(Violet, Ruby, Saffron, Jade, Amber, Ash, Hazel and Lavender are all names of minerals, or plant-related. Scarlett isn't, but imo it is a name more suited to Irish setters than girls.)

EliandmE · 14/09/2014 00:27

Love Indigo. Worth having another for?
I wanted Diggory sighs

EliandmE · 14/09/2014 00:28

Sorry just seen that you do want another - I can't see the issue with two I names?

dorasee · 14/09/2014 00:34

If I met an Indigo, I would assume the parents meant Inigo but got it wrong. Indigo makes me think 'denim'. Inigo, on the other hand, is a name with beautiful meaning.

minkah · 14/09/2014 00:59

Indigo isn't trashy at all.

Bear in mind all the people mildly disconcerted about a name they aren't accustomed to,,will get acclimatised in time, inevitably.

Indigos peers won't have any preconceptions to weigh them down, anyhow. They come with open minds!

Tortoise · 14/09/2014 01:12

I love the name Indigo. I'd use it if I ever had another baby girl (prefer it as a girls name).

ColdCottage · 14/09/2014 01:58

You can totally use it of you have another dd. go for it Grin

ColdCottage · 14/09/2014 01:58

Yy to use for a boy or a girl.

WittyUsername102 · 14/09/2014 09:13

We know an Indigo, 2 Blue's and 2 Cyan's. The Indigo (girl) and the 2 Cyan's (boys) have very ordinary middle names, for if they ever feel like changing. But one of the blue's has another color as their middle name (girl), and the other (boy) has an emotion as his middle name.

I feel like their is nothing wrong with naming your child after a colour (some more so than others, i.e Violet), but if you do then they should probably have a common middle name.
