This is purely hypothetical as I'm not pregnant, but I have been wondering about dc2. Grin

I love fifi as it is what we call one of my family members instead of Fiona. She has downs syndrome and is the sweetest person you could ever meet. I would love to name dc2 after her if we have a baby girl one day, as I think it would make her feel really included and special.

The thing is, I don't like Fiona. Could I call a girl fifi? Or how about fidelia shortened to fifi?

I think my views are clouded on the name because of its original owner, but I wouldn't want to give a dc a name that others would think is silly.

Right that's settled then. Ophelia Rose it is. Now to get dh on the baby waggon.

My friend Fiona used to punch people on the nose when they attempted to call her Fifi.

It's a name for a lapdog rather than a person.

fishfingerSarnies · 09/09/2014 10:40

Ffion?

FanjolinaJolie · 09/09/2014 10:42

How about Flora nn Fifi?
Ffion?

GoodboyBindleFeatherstone · 09/09/2014 10:42

I know a Florence shortened to Fifi. Florence Maria.

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 09/09/2014 10:43

I think any of

Phoebe
Philippa
Phyllida
Phyllis
Philomena
Felicia
Ffion
Fiera
Seraphina
Finola

would work as a longer name

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/09/2014 21:13

I know an Athena who is called Fifi by her family.

She's late 20's so I presume it evolved over years due to someone not being able to pronounce their th's!

MarmiteChocolate · 09/09/2014 22:08

I know a baby Phoenix who is always called Fifi. I think it's really cute.

SignYourNameInBrownAndFlame · 10/09/2014 08:42

Ophelia Rose is a beautiful name, OP. Get shagging! Grin

Leeds2 · 10/09/2014 08:54

Bob Geldorf and Paula Yates' eldest was Fifi-Trixiebelle.

CiderwithBuda · 10/09/2014 09:10

I'm another Fiona who hates being shorted to Fifi. It's a poodle IMHO! I think I did actually know a poodle called Fifi at one point.

I don't mind Fi funnily enough.

ShadyLadyT · 10/09/2014 09:26

I know a woman called Felicia....(pron Fel-eesha)

Amyrose82 · 10/09/2014 11:26

Ophelia Rose was our choice for a girl - we're having a boy! Excellent choice Grin

Hakluyt · 10/09/2014 11:30

Ophelia is lovely- but are you sure you won't be bothered by the only famous Ophelia being bonkers and committing suicide?

flanjabelle · 10/09/2014 11:48

Sorry I didn't realise there had been more posts.

Sign - I would happily start now but dh is still not quite on board. Apparently you can't force someone to have another child. Rediculous, I say!

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions, but I am set on Ophelia Rose, it's perfect.

Hakluyt, ah well, I'm a bit bonkers so it fits really!

You do know about the Ophelia in Hamlet, don't you?

FoxSticks · 10/09/2014 14:45

There are plenty of other tragic female characters in Shakespeare (and history) that shouldn't make a name unusable. Off the top of my head, Juliet has been a pretty popular name. Less popular but still beautiful names of Shakespearean tragic heroines are Cordelia and Hermione. If you like the name I don't see why Ophelia in Hamlet should put you off.

flanjabelle · 11/09/2014 10:31

Yes Hakluyt I did go to school. Grin

Fifer?

busyDays · 11/09/2014 13:21

I wouldn't use Fifi on its own. When my dd was younger she has a Fifi Flowertots coat with 'Fifi' written in big letters across the back and some of the teenage boys thought it was hilarious and would point and smirk because apparently they used 'fifi' to refer to a certain lady bit Confused.

MummyAngharad · 11/09/2014 17:30

How about Ffion, it is a welsh name meaning Foxglove and is pronounced Fee-on so Fifi would work just fine.

kentishgirl · 11/09/2014 17:38

Glad you moved away from Fifi on it's own.

I know a Fiona, who tolerates Fi, but goes into a rage at Fifi. She says she's not a frigging poodle. Hates it.

And from the Fionas posting on here, it seems it's not an uncommon reaction!

Your cousin might like Fifi, but few women would, I think. Maybe ok when a little kid/as a family nickname, but as your own adult full on name, hideous and embarrassing.
