Mums in Ireland...tell me about Chloe

How many Chloes do you know? especially under 5s?

it's a name I've always adored but ruled it out last 2 pregnancies as it was always in the top 10. it's number 13 in CSO top 100 last year I think so slipping slightly but still very high. but with a nearly 5 year old and a 2 year old I've never once come across one at crèche, school, playgroups, playcentres etc. A friend of a friend has a baby Chloe and that's the only one I know of.

I have a very common name and am always one of 2/3 everywhere I go so really don't want the same for my kids. having said that DS's name has gone from around 50 to top 10 since we had him so I'm wary of picking something just coz it's not in the top 10 as things can change so fast. and DD's name is around 30 in the list and there were two others in the Montessori I was looking at last week!

I can't win!

only other name I like is Annabel and DH not that keen and also I've only recently started liking it but have liked Chloe for years. just worried Chloe is a bit of a boring name now. maybe i'm sad but want people to think "oh that's lovely" when they hear baby's name, not "oh right that's nice."

I only know one Chloe and she's under 6mo . Lovely name :)

I know one Chloe who is four. The other two Chloe's I know are both teenagers. I think it's a very pretty name, and it's popular without being over-used if you know what I mean? If you like the name, I think you should use it... as you've said there is no way of predicting what will be a top 10 name in a few years.

PrincessWatermelon · 07/09/2014 14:20

My DD is Chloe Annabelle Grin So love your choice in names! She is 2.2 and we only know one other who is 4.

F0ssil · 07/09/2014 17:17

I like it. I know of about 3, and that's a big group of friends' children, family, school friends' children, colleagues' children.... So three is not many. I've lost count of the number of Amelias, Emilys and Emilias etc I know. I know the parents wouldn't be pleased that I lose track.

I know a few Zoes too, I like Zoe. Annabel is rarer in Ireland than Chloe or Zoe. What about Clio ? Or Claudia? That seems in the same style as Annabel. That is also rarer than Chloe. If you really care! Clodagh is in the top 10 now though so maybe Chloe and Clodagh get lost in each other, like Sofias and Sophies or Isabellas and Isobels. To be honest I think Chloe peaked years ago so I don't think there will be five others in the class.

Chloes are all teenagers.
I know one 5 year old, there's loads of teen Chloes. Loads.

FoodieMum3 · 07/09/2014 20:27

I know a few Chloe's who are 12-16 or so.

If you really like a name, I wouldn't let popularity bother me. I'm pretty sure that my eldest dd's name would be in the top 10 UK and Ireland names over the past 10 years or so but we just adored the name.

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2014 20:29

I know lots of teen Chloes, and hardly any younger ones.

mathanxiety · 07/09/2014 20:48

I have a little relative aged about 7 named Chloe. Tbh when her name was chosen I thought it had had its day.

There's no denying it's a lovely name -- I can't imagine anyone dismissing it apart from people who would only respond positively to something like Zenoushka. If you like it, choose it. Your DD will be unique no matter what name you give her.

I have DDs with really unpopular names and one whose name has been a top ten name for years. Those with the unusual names have complained and the popular name DD has also complained. It's impossible to please children when it comes to names Smile.

I don't know many children but I know two little Chloes, both around 3. One born and living in Ireland and the other born to Irish parents in England. Lovely name though.

twinjocks · 07/09/2014 22:56

I know quite a few teenage Chloes, and have heard people call to younger children with the name, but I'm not mad about it, put it this way - it doesn't sound good in a strong Dublin accent!!

babyblabber · 08/09/2014 18:47

thanks girls. am very torn on this one but only half way there so have a while yet to decide. and it could be a boy!

I know about five teenage Chloes in Ireland, but only one younger than five. Go for it if you like it, but as you say you're worrying about 'boringness', I will say that it sounds dated to me. I'm surprised it's so high in the naming stats in Ireland. I think of it as like Kyle.

Florrieboo · 09/09/2014 03:52

I am Irish but, not in Ireland iykwim, but, all the Chloe's I know at home are teenage girls. It is a very pretty name, it sounds lovely.

Vintagejazz · 09/09/2014 16:13

I only know of two; aged 3 and 4. But my friend, who's a primary school teacher, remarked a couple of years ago that there were a lot of Chloes amongst the younger pupils.
