Due tomorrow (Shock) and not 100% convinced about middle names.
Sorry for being vague about them but they will be pretty identifiable!
Dd1 has Rose after my grandma and if I'm honest, it's the only middle name I love.
There are other names I like but nothing else with meaning? I'd love the middle name to 'be' something rather than just a nice name.
So, not naming after dh mum (nc with her Hmm) or mine (love her to bits but not her name Confused sorry mum) used my grans name and his gran had a nickname as a first name (Betty) and it won't work with first name picked.

Can't have anything ending with an 'ee' sound (why we can't use Betty), first name starts with B, love short names and really like 'May' but concerned it will sound like 'Brian May' Blush plus no real reason to use May apart from liking it.

Ok, waffling done! If anyone can help at all I'd really appreciate it.

Betty is a nickname for Elizabeth so how about that or another form of it as a subtle nod to your DH's gran?

If you want something meaningful, are there any other relatives or friends you would want to honour? Your own name? Any figures from history/literature you admire? Anything meaningful to you and your DH and your relationship? (Eg I know someone who got married at Lake Louise and then gave her daughter a middle name Louise).

Grace or Elizabeth as zazie suggests. Love the first name if it's what I think it must be.

Really like elle or Ella too but not sure if they're too far removed from Betty? She was only Betty, didn't have a 'Sunday' name.

Eliza?

PrincessWatermelon · 07/09/2014 14:23

Did your mum have a nickname?

bouncingbelle · 07/09/2014 14:53

What about your mums maiden name?

Or Beth, as a nod to betty.

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 07/09/2014 15:03

Hmm, I'd rather not have two B names if that makes sense?
I'd love to have something from my mums name but she's always hated her name (first middle and maiden!) and she's never had a nickname don't think we can count calling her mum for the last thirty years

Sorry I'm so bloody picky! Should have been thinking about this I guess... ShockGrin

You don't have to officially decide on a mn for a few weeks. You may find inspiration during that time. Maybe even a special nurse/midwife at the hospital! We chose a Cornish mn for DS because my mother's family are Cornish - is there a region associated with your family history? Another possibility is to look at the meaning of names to see if any suit.

MsBug · 07/09/2014 15:24

How about a place name which is meaningful, perhaps where your family is from (this works better if you are from Skye than if you are from SloughGrin). Or your maiden name? Or a feminine version of one of your dad's or granddad's names?

Leeds2 · 07/09/2014 15:27

Could you use your maiden name (assuming you are married!) as a middle name, or your mum's maiden name?

Or Elizabeth/Beth/Bethan.

ShebaQueen · 07/09/2014 15:36

How about another flower middle name like her sister has? Do you like Violet, Iris, Jasmine?

HilariousInHindsight · 07/09/2014 22:36

I agree with pp about either feminine version of your Dad or Grandad or another flower name there are some lovely ones -

Lily
Ivy
Holly
Flora
Jasmine
Lavender
Poppy
Violet

Or a short middle name.
