How many of you regret name choices?

I'm finding it so hard to even draw up a shortlist of names that I can see myself panicking and going with anything once DD arrives.

I just wondered about the effect pregnancy hormones have on choosing a name when it gets to that point and whether people end up having any regrets?

You do have about 6 weeks after birth until you really have to decide.

If all else fails use a hat.

I changed baby"s name after registering her. You have a year to change.

I ended up calling her something I hadn't entertained while pregnant.

I love it now though, six months in.

A post on chat yesterday with a woman who still couldn't get used to four year old name.

I would advise against choosing a name when you meet baby. It worked for dc1 but not dc2.

I would research and make sure name isn't too popular. So I would rule out names that are in top fifty with lots of variations eg Eve/a/is/Angeline/Lyn or isobel, isobelle/Isabella or Sophia/Sofia/Sophie. That's just me though. Lots choose those names because they love them and don't care a jot about popularity.

Another pitfall is choosing an usual name that commonly gets misheard as its common equivalent. Emmeline for Emily or Elin for Erin.

I think the holy grail are names that have fallen out of popular usage. Veronica, Meryl, Bianca, Tamsyn.

Vowel names and a prefix names are very popular at mo.

Still, if you love a name go for it!

What are the names?

I do.

We had twin girls and dh and I named one each. I liked the name he chose but it really doesnt suit her :(

I wish I had been firmer when they were born.
