So, baby was born 2 weeks ago. we named him Edward (but will call him Ted). This was on our short list from the beginning (along with Tom and Josh) and I initially loved it. it just doesn't feel right now and I can't get to grips with it- I feel pretty meh about it. Should I change it to Tom or leave it and see of it grows on me? Not registering his name until mid September

Edward is one if the best names there is ;) mine is 18.

Not common but you can spell it. Many adaptable nicknames. It doesn't date you- it's not part of the " grandad chic " name revival as it's never really been in/ out if favour. But there isn't one " famous personality/ character" that's it's tagged too either.

Never ever woody though no no no! I'm surprised toy story managed to survive without much immature teenage boy sniggering!

Of the three names, I like Edward best, with nn Ned.

Edward is a great name. It's classic and can be used formally - Edward - or shortened in various ways to suit the personality of the child, e.g. if when a teenager he wants to be more casual he can call himself Eddie (or Ed, Ted, Teddie etc), if wanting to impress for a job then back to Edward.

I'd stick with it, he will grow into it Smile

It's a lovely name.

When my DS was born I was so awed that I felt no name could be special enough. It just wasn't right. DH was gentle but firm in saying it had been the only name we had both liked and it suited him brilliantly. He was right.

Maybe give it a week and see how you feel then?

Love Edward

I changed dds name and it took me 6 months to get used to new name.

You can only change it once during first yr so take your time.

What about Theodore instead - he can still be Ted - or Teddy, or Theo?

I do like Edward though xx

I love Edward. It's one of those names that isn't too 'cutesy' - Teddy as a wee one (Bear as a nickname? Haha) Ed/Eddie as a teenager and Edward as an adult. Lovely :)

It can take a while for the baby to 'feel' like anything other than 'the baby' IYSWIM. Leave it for a little - see if it grows on you - and if not, then change it. It's not a bad thing, to want to change the name! :)

((Sorry for the various smilies!))
