Any strong feelings?

My DS1 already has a 'common in the 50s-70s' name which no small children are called but that everyone knows. DC2 is due before xmas but DH and I can't agree on names we both like. He doesn't like John but I reckon it's plain enough that I can sway him...

I love John. I like Johnny for when they are little as well.

maitaimojito · 29/08/2014 13:13

My friend has a 3 year old John.

I don't love it and don't hate it. It just seems a bit plain in comparison to all the other lovely boys names out there.

BunnyLebowski · 29/08/2014 13:14

John is a good solid name.

I absolutely love Johnny for a kid/teenager.

squoosh · 29/08/2014 14:50

Johnny is ace. The world is littered with cool men called Johnny.

Bunny at the risk of sounding sounding slightly stalkerish, did you have your baby yet?

Pipbin · 29/08/2014 14:52

I have taught a couple of Johns over the last few years. It is making a bit of a come back.

ArsenicyOldFace · 29/08/2014 17:48

John is a good solid name.

This.

Solid and traditional and oaken Smile

maggiethemagpie · 29/08/2014 17:59

I always think of John as being the most common boy's name there is (it may not actually be, but I think of it like that). Common as in frequent not chavvy! Although that may be more for my generation than the current one. If that's not a problem GFI but it has always put me off for that reason.

PeterandJane · 29/08/2014 18:04

I love Johnnie!

Leeds2 · 29/08/2014 18:27

I don't really like it, but not a horrible name in any way, shape or form. Of that sort of name, I prefer James or David.

BunnyLebowski · 29/08/2014 18:28

I did squoosh Grin

He's called Frank. He's 2 weeks old and fast asleep on me here and I am utterly besotted Grin .

BunnyLebowski · 29/08/2014 18:30

Here he is Smile

Sorry for the hijack OP Blush

John
ArsenicyOldFace · 29/08/2014 18:34

Oh he's gorgeous Bunny.!

NunsArePeopleTooDougal · 29/08/2014 18:34

I have a two year old John, though he's Johnny to everyone. I think it's great, no one asks how to spell it and it's surprisingly uncommon nowadays.

PandaNot · 29/08/2014 18:42

I have a 10yr old John and he's the only one we know. He's known as Jack though.

squoosh · 29/08/2014 19:33

Awwwww little Frank. He looks like a tiny little badass, what a beautiful and thoughtful face.

Huge congratulations Flowers

rallytog1 · 29/08/2014 20:12

I like John.

I also reckon your dh is called Paul!

PilauMice · 29/08/2014 20:27

My DS you mean? Not Paul, it's an OT name but for some reason isn't riding the OT trend wave. DH is willing to consider John after a further chat!

Yes, sorry. Brain not engaged tonight!

Sophronia · 29/08/2014 23:12

I love John. It's a strong, handsome classic.

PilauMice · 31/08/2014 18:58

Thanks for the feedback ladies! Very positive responses. In fact I wonder why there are so few Johns around!

I have 10 boys in my reception class this year and two are called john!

whatsagoodusername · 02/09/2014 18:59

I know lots of Johns sort of 30+, none if under. I would guess that the parents now are mostly overloaded with Johns in their lives and so don't consider it for their children, even though it's less common now.

Montsti · 02/09/2014 19:19

I think it's really boring, a nothing name - sorry! How about Jonathan?
