What are your opinions on Ffion (Ffi for short), particularly if you live in England? Is the double F confusing? Any input gratefully received!

I think Ffion is a well-understood Welsh name in England. I wouldn't have thought that it would cause too many problems.

Also welsh living in England tbh I love it but people do have a tendency to mispronounce names that are not from their culture for example was going to call dd Niamh (born in Wales Irish parents but happy with my mixed Celtic origin) but realised that it might be difficult for people to get their heads around it. Although Ffion I think might be easier. At the end of the day if you like go for it

Lovely.

I like it, if you are of Welsh heritage. Think people would get used to the double F and pronounciation (of well known ish Ffions I can think of Ffion Hague so people would have probably heard it before).

You might get people spelling it Fion or presuming she's called Fiona - apart from that it's a lovely name.

peppinagiro · 29/08/2014 20:12

Yeah it's lovely. I don't really see how it could be mispronounced - though I'm sure someone will find a way! But as a PP said, most people will be familiar with it because of Ffion Hague.

I think it's generally quite well known, enough to avoid much confusion about spelling / pronunciation.

Lovely name.

lovely, one of my choices if i'd had a girl. spelling might be slight issue, but people you know should overcome this fairly quickly and overall can't see the name being an issue in england - one of the many reasons i wanted it

I love the name Ffion it's my little girls middle name, I think it shouldn't be too much of a problem. It's popular in Wales at the moment and I think even if someone hasn't heard of the name once told it is a pretty simple pronunciation which is easy to remember.

I'm English but I've lived in Wales for the past 10 years and I've never had any issues with the name Ffion. I probably wouldn't have been able to spell it if I hadn't seen it first, but I think the pronunciation is quite obvious. To an Englishman with no Welsh knowledge it just looks like a redundant double f.
