Prompted by a comment on another thread, I wonder if there are names that you like, but change one letter and you can't stand it?

I love Juliet but I don't like Julie at all.
I love Louisa while Louise does nothing for me.

Oh it might be Calvin to be fair. I haven't seen it written down, just spoken (and she makes a point of emphasising the A)

AccidentallyInLove · 27/08/2014 19:04

Harry - good
Barry - bad

BikeRunSki · 27/08/2014 19:10

Love Aiden; dislike Jaiden etc
Prefer Rob to Bob

Like Caroline, not keen on Carolyn

Like Marla, but not Maria

NerfHerder · 27/08/2014 20:55

Heheh @ Calvin/Kelvin- how many little Kelvins are there around these days?

BackspaceEnter · 28/08/2014 18:29

Arya - Nazis
Aria - Beautiful name.

Yorkshirelassreturns · 28/08/2014 20:22

Love Billy not Willy

gamescompendium · 28/08/2014 20:43

I was going topost about my colleague Angus who signed his name on a group email minus the 'g' but I think I've missed the point of the thread Grin

LadyDowagerHatt · 29/08/2014 23:35

I have a baby Erin - her name was misheard as Eric the other week!

HibiscusIsland · 29/08/2014 23:59

Harry and Barry
Ryan and Bryan (two letters so cheating!)
I like Clare but not Clara

Sinkingfeeling · 30/08/2014 00:04

Like Helena but not Helen
Clara but not Clare
Maria but not Maria

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 30/08/2014 00:30

How are people pronouncing Helena? I always wonder as I knew a Helena which was pronounced
Hell-een-ah but have only ever heard of Helen-a pronunciation in rl since.

Sophronia · 30/08/2014 01:53

I've heard helen-a, hel-een-a and hel-ay-nah, I prefer helen-a though.

ZingOfSeven · 30/08/2014 02:25

Bob - sweet

Boob - well, just don't Grin

Gemerama82 · 30/08/2014 09:29

Interesting thread. Seems whether we like a name or not is less about it's sound and meaning and more about the associations we have with it.

telsa · 30/08/2014 10:18

Don't like Anne, like Anna. Hester not Esther. Jane not Jayne. Deborah not Debora. Alice not Alicia.

satintaupe · 30/08/2014 10:25

I like Isabelle but don't like Isabella.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 30/08/2014 12:51

Interesting thread. I also find it quite fascinating that a name can be nice on one person but horrible on another. Some people children do not suit their names at all.

HollyBen · 30/08/2014 13:11

I know these are not a letter different but...

I don't like Florence at all, but love Flora
I really really don't like George or Georgina but love Georgia

momb · 30/08/2014 13:19

I have a background in embryology/developmental toxicology.
Thus I quite like Emilia but don't like Amelia (which means absent limb).

Medibeagle · 30/08/2014 17:19

Fulk!

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 30/08/2014 17:30

Kim82 · 30/08/2014 17:35

Yep, my daughter's name is Leah but I don't like any of the other names that rhyme with it - Mia, Tia, Ria etc.

Also love the name Megan but not Tegan.

EyeoftheStorm · 30/08/2014 21:04

williaminajetfighter · 30/08/2014 21:06
