The only boys name DH is interested in discussing.

I thought he was joking, but apparently not Confused

He has conceded it will probably end up a middle name but wants me to consider it as a (first) Christian name.

Obviously this stems from his childhood CCBB fixation.

Thoughts?

In light of Rolf Harris, I just don't think you can go there. It's such an unusual name, for most parents/teachers, it will be one of the first things that comes to mind.
Love the idea of taking inspiration from children's fiction though!

almapudden · 24/08/2014 13:19

Bede is a very venerable name!

Eminybob · 24/08/2014 13:29

My DP strung me along with his insistence we call our DS Jesus, but pronounced the Latino way hey-zeus. I am only partly convinced he was winding me up, but for months it was the only name he would talk about. Men are odd creatures. (He's not religious by the way Confused)

Yes. The only other Children's Lit character name we have on the shortlist is Hatty, inspired by my young passion for Tom's Midnight Garden, but actually that one is pretty meaningful to me.

Bede is a very venerable name!

Indeed it is Smile

Men are odd creatures.

Another profound truism for my MN embroidered cushion collection Grin

And he didn't later admit it was a joke or admit he got carried away Eminy? Confused

The poor child will get called crackers. Which is slang for underwear round this way.

What about Jeremy? That's from ccbb. Of course, mr Kyle has probably ruined that one.

Or toot sweet?

ArsenicyOldFace · 24/08/2014 14:31

Or toot sweet?

I'm still braced for 'Truly' to appear on the girls' list Hmm

I like Caradog, but maybe it works better if you have Welsh connections/live in or near Wales.

loopyarabella · 24/08/2014 15:32

First association = Rolf Harris. Sorry.

BingoBonkers · 24/08/2014 15:39

Could you imagine the faces at the wedding of said child as the full name gets announced? There will be a few "Eh? What was that name? WTF"

Plus the child will be forever having to spell it. He will never be able to go into a card shop and buy one of those personalised key rings/money boxes.

Don't. Do. It.

I couldn't have it as a middle name.

It's perfect for the name of a pet cat or summat though.

WellingtonWomble · 24/08/2014 15:40

I know a child called Truly Hmm

Eminybob · 24/08/2014 15:40

No Arsenicy he still goes on about it now. I'm pretty sure he's still winding me up though, but he won't admit it.
DS is called William btw which he did eventually choose as it's a family name on his side.

PuppyMonkey · 24/08/2014 15:49

Even without the RH connection it is frankly a silly name. Stop it.

VeryStressedMum · 24/08/2014 15:54

It took me a while to read the name first I thought it said cactus, then Caracas.
Don't do it.

UrsulaTheZebra · 24/08/2014 16:45

If you want a literary connection with a similar-ish sound, there's always Atticus. Though I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to actually use it.

ArsenicyOldFace · 24/08/2014 16:46

Ah, To Kill a Mocking Bird. Lovely. I like that Smile
