Is this too much of a mouthful?

Ilya Louvel.

I really like Louvel as a middle name for baby-to-be but would this be a mouthful?

First named pronounced eel-YAH (Russian).

How often would a child be saying both of there names out loud? My three year old has no idea he has a middle name never mind what it is.

She'll have more bother explaining to people that it isn't pronounced the same way as Isla.

tryingtocatchthewind · 21/08/2014 10:28

ARGH meant #their

Thurlow · 21/08/2014 10:29

It does depend on whether you are ever really going to say it. I gave DD middle names but tbh we never, ever say them. Which is good because the length of all over names sounds a bit overkill - 5-syllable first name, 2-syllable then 1 syllable middle names, 2 syllable surname. It's a lot when you say it all together! But in RL you actually don't.

FoodieMum3 · 21/08/2014 10:34

You've all just answered my question (thread I just posted) Smile

Ilya is a beautiful name.

MsBug · 21/08/2014 10:36

Is it for a boy or a girl?
How do you pronounce louvel?

I'm not sure tbh - I would go for a more conventional middle name so that they can use it when they are older if they don't like having an unusual name

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 21/08/2014 10:37

Ilya is a boys name, shurely?

florascotia · 21/08/2014 11:39

Agree- both are boy's names, Brisket
Don't think OP mentioned gender, tho others have done.

The meaning of Louvel is quite jolly - 'little wolf'.

It's a surname in France (Loo-vehl), related to the English surnames 'Lowell' and 'Lovell'.

Agree also that we rarely say first name and middle name together.

MsBug · 21/08/2014 12:27

I've only heard ilya as a boy's name but the op didn't say and other posters think it's a girl's name, so either way there would be confusion.

MultipleMama · 21/08/2014 12:32

Yes, Ilya is a boy's name. It's the Russian varient of Elijah :)

Flora has the correct pronuncation of Louvel, and I adore the French meaning I love wolves and my beautiful dc are my little cubs Grin.

Thank you for the replies. It's settled; it's at the top of the list Grin.

Great names, love Louvel.

gamescompendium · 21/08/2014 22:45

My DCs have 11, 8, and 9 syllables in their full names (all got 2 middle names). The older two love their long names (both have very short first names), the one year old has not yet expressed an opinion.

Love Ilya, not heard Louvel before but love the meaning!

MultipleMama · 22/08/2014 13:51

Thank you. It's actually a name DH and I actually 100% agree on.

We love Ilya Louvel and, I like Ilya Konstantin, DH likes Ilya Augustus. Grin

Beautiful name. If I saw it written on my class list I would expect a girl but that's only my ignorance of the name and, once I knew he was a boy, there would be no more problem.

MultipleMama · 22/08/2014 15:39

I think people think it's a girl's name due to it ending in 'a' and some mispronounce it (ill-ya), but luckily I live where pronunciation is important so easily learnt Grin

CatKisser · 22/08/2014 15:42

Only issue I can see is that "il y a" in French (pronounced ilYA, like your chosen first name) means "there is" so the baby's full name in French would be "there is a little wolf" - not a massive deal maybe but worth considering?

Heels99 · 22/08/2014 15:47

I thought was pronounced like Isla and for a girl but I am unfamiliar with Russian names

StrangeGlue · 22/08/2014 15:57

I Think it's nice and it's not like you'll call her by her full name 100 times a day.

MultipleMama · 22/08/2014 16:10

Not worth considering to me Grin because "i ly a" is a french expression, and spelling "i lya a" as "Ilya" takes away the meaning of the expression, so it would no longer be there is/there are. IMO anyway.

Strange - It's a boy's name. It's the Russian variant of Elijah. But thank you, I think it's nice too :)

And louvel is boy's name.
