Aster

I've just decided it's my ideal girl's name. A flower that has the meaning star it's also not too frilly and pretty unusual.

Or am I mad?

I quite like it. Never come across it before. Only negative is I do think it might look like a boy's name as when I saw it I was thinking it was going to be a boy's surname-type name, and I was going to say to spell it Astor. But that might not bother you anyway!

I also quite like it, but people will probably mishear it and think you mean Esther.

I love it too - I would think it was a boys name but that's not to say it wouldn't suit a girl as well.

I like it. And aster flowers are very attractive, with such subtle pink and purple colours.

Really like it - added it to my list recently as a 'new discovery'. Mentioned it to my mum, though, and she said people would hear Asda, which put me off a bit!

Don't really like transferred surnames on girls (the very famous one is one letter different, but it's still a surname).

Not a surname, surely? Aster (from the ancient Greek for 'star') has been used as a flower-name since the 1790s:

I like it, it is often used in Ethiopia I think. I have met a couple of Ethiopian girls called Aster and although not common it is easy to spell and say and sounds more normal than it is.

There were 8 Aster's born in 2013 so not even all that strange, definitely not made up.
