Dc 2 is due in December/January and I'd like a winterish name to go with dd1's name Robyn, who was also born in the winter.
Problem is I don't know yet if I'm expecting a boy or a girl as it never wants to show what it is when I've had my scans!

I don't like old fashioned names like Ivy, Sylvia and neither do I like the lastest on trend names Eva/Amelie/Sophie etc.....

Can't find a boys name that I like at all... HELP!

Dd likes Holly, but I'm not sure. Dh is easy going and will let me choose.

Nicholas
Coal

The Latin for Holly is Ilex, so perhaps Lexi
Ana

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/08/2014 15:41

Do you like Nathan or Nathaniel? They, along with Natalie for a girl mean born at the time of the Nativity.

Other boys names
Stephen (Boxing Day is St. Stephen's Day)
Casper (one of the three wise men)

Seren and Freya are both winter names for girls.

Medibeagle · 14/08/2014 15:41

Or how about North?

Welsh for white (I think) is Wyn, so Olwyn Oswin type names.

KatherinaMinola · 14/08/2014 15:42

There's a whole video of winter baby names on the Office for National Statistics site - I'll see if I can find it.

I quite like Stephen but i'm not sure if it's a bit too 70's or a bit boring. However the more I say it the more it sounds like a solid name, don't like Steve though.
My sister suggested Balthazar!!! Lol, don't think so!
What do you all think of Noelle?

aoife24 · 14/08/2014 16:05

Winter as a name itself.

Pantstootight · 14/08/2014 16:07

thanks KatherinaMinola...have had a look, that led me to other wintery name sites.
I do like Nathan but Dh isn't English and can't pronounce 'th'. Sounds like na-tan, not good!

Have started thinking of winter flowers or their Latin names,
Erica, latin for Heather
Viola, latin for Pansy,winter pansies

Can't seem to think of a name that I love, just names that are 'alright' or I don't like them... ufff

Neve - latin for snow

Storm

Jay- common winter bird

Holly

Rain

Gray

I was like you about Nicholas, but the more I mulled (see what I did there?) it over the more I liked it, then we had a girl, then my friend called her son Nicholas and now I have name envy Grin

GerundTheBehemoth · 14/08/2014 16:58

Eira (Welsh for snow - pronounced AY-ra)?

Jays live here all year round, not just winter. There are some birds that are only here in winter but I can't think of any with names that would work for a person...

DitzyDonkey · 14/08/2014 18:07

Winter is pretty great for a girl.

I love a previous posters suggestion of Caspar.

Clementine?

Lunastarfish · 14/08/2014 18:23

Cassius for a boy
Santa for a girl (only if you're brave!)
Holly is a bit meh
Noelle/Noel
Timothy (A Xmas Carroll)
Ebenezer (I'm joking now)
Ruth
Joseph
MarY
Jesus!

BreeVDKamp · 14/08/2014 18:43

Noelle :)

minipie · 14/08/2014 19:05

Stella or Estelle (I think of stars as a winter/Christmassy thing).

Robin

Carol

Pantstootight · 14/08/2014 19:05

Great suggestions everyone. Thanks alot.

I like joesph, could be Joe that's nice, I like the winter/Christmas connection too.
Baby is due around Christmas and New Year so am kean to have a name that goes.

Do like Wren but as dd's name is Robyn I think they sound really awful together. Too similar, almost the same name!

Don't like Jay, I get the bird connection, but it sounds to me like a name Katie Price or Kerry Katona would use.

Jesus

Holly
Ivy

Pantstootight · 14/08/2014 19:17

Are there any little boys around in England called Jesus.
Can't imagine classrooms overpopulated with little Jesus'!

Might be ok if I lived in Mexico, but I don't like it anyway!!!

Medibeagle · 14/08/2014 21:34

bouquetofpencils · 14/08/2014 22:10

I really like Noelle.

Scarlett (red is wintry)
Holly goes very well with Robyn.
Nova (star name)

Douglas (fir)
Theodore (gift from god I think)

I think of anything Scottish or Scandinavian as being wintry and snowy.

Linguaphile · 15/08/2014 14:28

We used Winter as a middle name for our DD... I quite like it. :)
