Can the name Callie stand on it's own?

I really like the name Callie for a girl. However can it be considered a name in it owns right? I realise that it could be a shortened version of Calista or Calliope, but I am not particularly fond of either. Is Calyssa a possibility?

I would appreciate your opinions and any suggestions of other names that Callie could be short for.

Thanks.

My sister is Caley but spelt like this I love the name :) was always jealous she got the nice name!!

Callie is best on its on. The rest sound dodgy.

Calista - blister
Caliope - calipers
Calidora - something out of HP
Callianne - alright I spose
Callia - different name.

Calyssa is sweet. You could always have a Calantha

burgatroyd · 14/08/2014 14:06

Calyssa sounds like Khaleesi.

TheCowThatLaughs · 14/08/2014 14:06

Caroline?

TheCowThatLaughs · 14/08/2014 14:06

Or maybe Kathleen?

KirstyJC · 14/08/2014 14:07

I know a Callie. It's a really nice name - all those others mentioned just sound odd and/or made up!

ashtrayheart · 14/08/2014 14:07

I'd go for Callie in its own right Smile

Sophronia · 14/08/2014 15:13

Callie can be short for Caroline or Carolina as well.

Callisto
Calixta
Calla
Calanthe
Calypso

SideOfFoot · 14/08/2014 15:14

I know a few people who are called Callie. It's fine on its own.

badtime · 14/08/2014 15:55

Calandra
Calpurnia (or maybe not Grin

(Also 'Kalina', but I think MN would have a collective fit of the vapours at the idea of someone calling an innocent child 'Kallie', even if it is the name of a Bulgarian princess.)

ChickenMe · 14/08/2014 16:28

I knew a Caroline nn Callie. Personally I'm not a huge fan of nn type names without a long version but if that doesn't bother you then who am I or anyone else to put you off. Some nn names do stand alone. Kate/Katie for instance and that's only because they happen to be more well used .

ShovettyMcShovetty · 14/08/2014 18:02

Was she conceived in California perchance? Grin

Yeah I'm sure it can stand on its own... Isn't it the name of Inspector Barnaby's dd in Midsomer Murders?

looki · 16/08/2014 00:15

I always thought Inspector Barnaby's daughter was called 'Cully'? I only remember it as I'd never heard of it before (or since) and it sounds a bit erm. silly in my opinion.

Callie, on the other hand, is more widely used without sounding made up. I like it though prefer more formal names on birth certs. I would name her Callista and shorten to Callie.
