...other than Milly - Love Romilly but not a huge fan of Milly. Thanks!

Romy?

Tommy · 12/08/2014 12:13

why don't you just call her that and wait for the nickname to "emerge"?

My DS2 is called a nickname which I would never have thought we would give him but it just happened and everyone calls him it now.

PrincessOfChina · 12/08/2014 12:22

We have a Romilly and we expected her to end up as Milly (which we didn't mind). However, at 3.5 she's still firmly Romilly with occasional shortening to Rom, Roo and for a period when she was small, Roly.

I actually don't now think it lends itself easily to nicknames.

KoalaDownUnder · 12/08/2014 12:48

Yes, I'd go for Romy rather than Milly.

What a fantastic name, though! LOVE Romilly. It's fab.

Romy
Roma
Ro
Milla
Mila

Mrsjinglejangle · 12/08/2014 14:35

Romy which is an awesome nn

UriGeller · 12/08/2014 14:51

Mimi?

Lunastarfish · 12/08/2014 18:47

My friends DS is Emilia and nn is Mils

Floop · 12/08/2014 18:49

I know 4 adult Romily's (all spelled with one L actually, but that's a separate issue) and none of them use nicknames.

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/08/2014 13:23

Milly would be the most obvious to me.

Why is a nickname necessary though, pre-birth? They usually develop over time.

MaudantWit · 13/08/2014 13:32

I agree. Let the nickname (if any) emerge naturally rather than trying to preordain it.

ShovettyMcShovetty · 13/08/2014 15:23

It's not necessary to preordain a nn, but although it is a popular name here in England, Milly is a pejorative term for a woman in NI where I come from, so I really want to avoid my daughter being called "Milly". It is the same meaning as "chav" in England, but is only used for women or girls Sad.

I live in England, so if Milly "emerges" as a nn over here and DD starts introducing herself as Milly in NI... well, you see where I am going! Smile

Aaaah I see!

She could have more than one nickname. In the family it could be Romy and then her friends, well...it could be absolutely anything Grin

notnowImreading · 13/08/2014 16:00

I have a dear friend with a Romily. Her grandfather calls her Rommel and sometimes Foxy (desert fox). Hopefully this won't last until she studies WW2.

ShovettyMcShovetty · 13/08/2014 17:30

Thanks. It is a horrible word and so annoying that it only applies to females in NI! Angry

Why risk it if it matters so much to you? I discounted tonnes of names because of the potential nicknames.

ElizabethMedora · 16/08/2014 14:56

I know an adult Romily, she is generally called Romily but sometime shortened to Rom.
