Ok my mum is going on about the spelling of my dd 2 bs name I want it the right way but my mum is sure she will get bullied and wants her to have the option of having beth in her name if she gets to 15 and hates what I've called her. But seeing it written like that looks like I can't spell. I can see her point I got bullied because of my name so I dnt want it repeated but really dnt like it. Everyone knows it I can't think of an alternative name I do like that is stand outish as that.

Can't really understand your post but the correct spelling is

TABITHA

WestEast · 10/08/2014 18:27

Tabitha.
She can still have the nick name of Beth.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 10/08/2014 18:29

I agree, correct spelling is Tabitha.

OP, have you called her Tabetha and your mum objects?

florascotia · 10/08/2014 18:31

The correct spelling is Tabitha. No question. Tabetha as a name just doesn't exist. You are 100% correct - it's illiterate
The only possible - and uncommon - variation is Tabatha - see:
www.behindthename.com/name/tabitha

Your mother seems to be suggesting that Tabitha is something to be escaped from. Quite the reverse! I know more than one very accomplished and pleasant adult women with that name.

SanityClause · 10/08/2014 18:35

No one gets bullied because of their name, although they might be bullied about their name, IYSWIM.

A bully doesn't need a reason, they just find one, whether that be a name, or slightly different shoes.

Call her Tabitha, and if you want to call her Beth, that's fine, as well.

oldiebutnctoday · 10/08/2014 18:39

I must confess to having a thing about traditional names spelt in quirky ways, they make me Hmm
However that said Tabitha is Tabitha is Tabitha, tell your mum to jog on, your baby your name choice!

DarkBlueEyes · 10/08/2014 18:40

My youngest daughter is called Tabitha. I love the name, still do. I didn't realise it but it was a very popular name in the mid 1800s, which amazed me! Beatrix Potter called a character Tabitha Twitchet. Your mother is talking through her butt. If you want to call your child Beth as a nickname, then name her Elizabeth. If you love the name Tabitha, then call her Tabitha, or condemn her to a lifetime of having to spell her name. Our little one gets called Tabs, or Bibi or Bibsi (pronounced beeb). We never call her Tabby but her friends do.

Whose baby is this to name? Yours, or your mother's?

DarkBlueEyes · 10/08/2014 18:42

Ps. Tabitha is not the kind of name you'll be bullied for. My friends and all her friends LOVE her name. Call her Pixie Foo Foo and you might have a problem....Blush

FantasticButtocks · 10/08/2014 18:42

Your mum is being silly.

Tabitha is a perfectly good name and that is how it is spelt. It can be sweetly shortened to Tabby, but Beth, while a perfectly good name and as a shortened version of Bethany, Elizabeth, Bethan etc, is not really associated with the name Tabitha.

Your mum doesn't like the name and prefers the name Beth, it would seem. But Tabitha is your child, not your mum's. I think your mum is projecting her dislike of the name onto her granddaughter, and assuming she won't like it Confused but why shouldn't she like it?

Also, if you got bullied because of your name, maybe your mum's specialist subject is not girls' names...

burgatroyd · 11/08/2014 11:55

I like Tabitha and Pixie Foo Foo

RiverTam · 11/08/2014 12:00

Tabitha

DitzyDonkey · 11/08/2014 12:04

Tabitha is he correct spelling.

Tabetha is just ridiculous, and I think she would be more likely to get bullied fir a name that is incorrectly spelled.

Tabitha is gorgeous!

ShovettyMcShovetty · 11/08/2014 15:10

Tabitha - your Mum sounds like she might be being a bit Hmm on this occasion. Nobody gets bullied for being called Tabitha. What a strange thing to think! Mums are funny creatures sometimes. Grin

merce · 11/08/2014 15:14

Tabetha would make people think you were illiterate. Tabitha is a lovely name. Sounds as if your mother would like the baby to be called Beth…. which is a different issue. She had her turn at naming a little girl - now it's your turn!!

minipie · 11/08/2014 15:28

Tabitha. You are right and your mum is wrong. hope that helps Grin

If you're worried she might not like it when she's older, give her a very common middle name and she can use that instead.

Superrhan · 11/08/2014 18:51

Tabetha looks like you/she can't spell.

Absolutely Tabitha, and Beth still works as a nn. (Although I love Biffy as a nickname for Tabitha, but I think I'm odd in that regard)

DarkBlueEyes · 12/08/2014 11:38

Superrhan you're not alone. A good friend of mine calls my Tabitha "biffa" though I have to say I prefer your version!!! I wonder how the OP got on and what she decided?

TheScenicRoute · 12/08/2014 19:03

With an 'I' defiantly to look better save on the whole spelling situation.

She can still be called Beth, either way. Have you considered tabby as a nick name? I know a tabby.

Can't understand why you'd consider Tabetha...it's not how that names spelt. Whats the point of messing with a spelling? Go with Tabitha, otherwise the child is going to spend her life spelling out her name to everyone all the time, which is really annoying and tedious.

stellinaa · 01/04/2018 02:20

I don't know why but the name Tabitha just seems like the name of a cat to me and could see her getting teased over it iyswim. Though if you are really in love with the name, then go for it! T (Tee), Abby/Abbie or Beth are really sweet nicknames also.

Littlemum2be86 · 01/04/2018 09:32

Tabitha 100%! Tabetha just looks like you can’t spell. You could still still shorten her name name to Beth with the Tabitha spelling anyway. Your mum is being silly.
