Girl names to go with George with Polish translation?

ithoughtofitfirst · 07/08/2014 16:01

9 weeks to go... really think this is a girl and starting to really panic now.

Dh and I can't agree on anything that we've thought of.

Criteria: must have a Polish version of the name plus be a little bit different.

Thanks!!

If you have not already seen this list, it might be useful. It gives Polish names, their meanings and their English equivalents:

I know a Polish girl called Zosia (pronounced Zosh-a) who goes by Sophie when in the UK if that's what you mean? George and Sophie go well. :)

I know a Polish little girl called Milena which I think is pretty. Also Zuzanna.

Hello OP!
I know a few Polish girls brought up in the UK and their names worked in both languages, including Nikola, Alicja, Weronika, Roza, Lucia, Kaja, Magda, Aleksandra, Justyna, Karolina, Krystyna, Lidia, Andzelika, etc.

Other names which could work include Anna, Hannah, Julia, Maria, Martha/Marta, Anastasia, Gabriella, Angelika, Natalya, Anya, Bianca/Bianka and Daniela :)

SomethingAboutNothing · 08/08/2014 21:36

I like Aniela, could nickname Anya or Ella.
Eweline is lovely, Eveline would be the English spelling.
Emilia is nice too.

Letthemtalk · 08/08/2014 21:40

Kasia, pronounced Kasha

ithoughtofitfirst · 08/08/2014 22:40

They're all really pretty! Thanks everyone . I like the idea of Krystyna because it's my mum's name and Babcia in law's name. It's kind of timeless really but not old fashioned. I like that it's more or less the same way of saying it in either language. Unlike George which becomes Jurek lol.

Alicja/ Alice: goes well with George. I like Anastaja/Anastasia too.

squoosh · 10/08/2014 13:48

Kasia is lovely.

I have the same issue as you OP, or will have when I become pregnant :)
I'm ok with girls names but not boys yet.
I like Izabela which sounds the same in English and Polish.
I also like the Polish Liliana which would also work well in English.
Mil is called Janina which I think also think translates well in both languages, of course in Poland it's pronounced Yanina but here she pronounces it with our English J.

Kasia is nice but beware that for an English tongue saying it - it can sound like the Polish word for Kasza (Buckwheat) :)

ithoughtofitfirst · 10/08/2014 14:51

George and Alice is a great combo!

carpediem would have loved Izabela 'Iza' but dh's niece in Poland is Iza and she OWNS that name. Really suits her too she's such a pretty little thing.

We have finally decided on a name though. Still no middle name but that's not as much of a problem !

Dh's Aunt in Poland is Iza too but she's in her 60's and doesn't mind name sharing :)
