Oliver 'Ollie'

Is the name 'Oliver' too popular, or is it a lovely classic name that won't date? Would an Oliver be one of many in his class? Do you know many baby Olivers? Thanks for your thoughts x

Way too popular and overused! Not only will there most likely be several Olivers in a schoolyear but the name will also start to sound dated as it falls out of favour.

Agree that Orson is a great name!

There were six girls with my name in my year in secondary school. And three in my graduate intake (of 15) when I started my first job. I deliberately have my DS an unpopular name as I hated it...

Vitriol? I think everyone is just agreeing that it's super popular and will inevitably fall out of fashion and sound dated in a decade or so.
I think you are taking it very personally.

I don't see how it will be dated. I know Olivers of all ages, from newborn up to mid-fifties. Prefer Olly to Ollie as nn. ie spellings seem a bit girly to me.

It's been really interesting reading these comments, thanks. I have to say I still love the name...but the fact it was the most popular name last year does worry me a little. I hope if we do choose it, it doesn't 'date' as some of you are predicting. I just wish I liked another name as much!

My oliver is normally known as Oli. It wasn't planned that we would spell it that way but it took him AGES to learn to write his full name that i couldn't stand the thought of starting all over again with a new spelling!!!!
