Mentioned to my mother I liked Blair for a girls name and she looked at me like I was mad. Anyone else like Blair or am I being daft?

Never seen gossip girl! Didn't realise there was a girl called Blair in it. Came across it searching for Scottish girls names. Had heard of it as a boys name but not as a girls. Just liked it but not sure now if it's associated with an American drama.

It's finished now op, so only people a certain age would make the connection.

The Tony Blair connection is far more off putting for me, personally.

Keepsake · 27/07/2014 22:16

Yeah, its finished. Gossip Girl fans are probably 18-25 now.

BreeVDKamp · 27/07/2014 22:18

I really like it but can't help picturing Tony :( ruined!

MrsBungle · 27/07/2014 22:18

I don't think it works well as a girls name - it's a boys name and it's not unisex to me.

BigfootFiles · 27/07/2014 22:24

It's a bit bleurgh. Wink

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/07/2014 22:32

I love it but for a boy not girl. It's a well known boys name in Scotland

weatherall · 27/07/2014 22:33

I like it but too much of a tony connection to me.

What about Adair?

That's a nice unusual Scottish girls name.

Or Bonnie

Or Dallas

Or senga

ExcuseTypos · 27/07/2014 22:35

Oh god no. I'd just think of Teflon Tony I'm afraid. Don't do that to your dd.

Lesleythegiraffe · 27/07/2014 22:37

It's a no from me on 2 fronts -

a) It is a boy's name and I don't like the (largely US) thing of using boys' names for girls

b) It makes me think of Tony Blair

Oh yes adair is great
Not senga, thats a wee scottish wummin with varicose veins and cats name

Lesleythegiraffe · 27/07/2014 22:53

Was Senga only popular in the Southern areas of Scotland? I'm in the NE and never heard of it up here.

Who the hell thought spelling Agnes backwards was a good idea for a name anyway?

scottishmummy · 27/07/2014 22:58

Bridie is a pastry fae greggs, that makes you cough

Lesleythegiraffe · 27/07/2014 23:25

We could start up another dreadful old Scottish tradition of putting "ina" on the end of any man's name to make a girl's one.

Around here we have had Alexina, Jamesina, Williamina, Hughina etc etc - admittedly they are all either in their 80s or dead by now!

usualnamechanger · 27/07/2014 23:37

Are you naming a baby or a dog?

ChanelNumber19 · 27/07/2014 23:38

I like it!

Politelydeclining · 28/07/2014 00:07

Scottishmummy where on earth is 'Ferguson' a first name, let alone a girls first name.

OP if you are looking for a Scottish girl's first name there are loads of great choices, I'm not sure that Blair is one of them personally. Up to you though obvs.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 28/07/2014 00:24

The only time I've ever heard the name Blair for a girl was in the film Christmas With The Kranks.

It's also the sound you make when you vomit.
