A brother or sister for Claudia

My DH and I seriously struggled to come up with dd's name. She is Claudia Margot, which was a compromise but I do love it. She has a second middle name but I don't want to make myself entirely identifiable.

DH has entirely different taste in names. He likes Diana Margaret, which although I like it, I don't want Diana link and Margaret too similar to Margot. For dd, my mother suggested Claudia and DH deemed it acceptable. I'm hoping that'll happen here too. These are my favourites:

Barnaby
Hector (DH approves so not struggling for a boy's name as is is what we would've used for a boy last time)

Fenella, known as Nell
Sylvie
Dahlia
Isadora
Nina
Romily
Clementine
Paloma
Leonora

If I like these, what else might I like? (I am only a tiny bit pregnant, but this could take the next eight moths......).

And I do want a name that goes with Claudia: that matters to me.

Do you think the cl sound at the beginning of Claudia and Clemency will sound a bit daft? A bit too themed?

CheerfulYank · 26/07/2014 17:23

I know

CheerfulYank · 26/07/2014 17:24

Oops!

I know a Romily who is Romy only :)

MagnificentMaleficent · 26/07/2014 19:18

We would have had Josie for Josephine, and Pippa for Philippa.

We call our Claudia, Claudi, so Claudi and Clemmy would be a bit matchy for me.

I def don't think Leonora will become too popular and think it is beautiful.

Other names I liked

Alice
Cassandra
Dorothy
Katherine
Sadie

Gigi is a very nice nickname, but in the film it's short for Gilberte, not Jemima. And - I really don't wish to sound critical - but am not sure why anyone would want to spell Jemima with a 'G'; it's based on the boy's name James.

Slavetominidictator · 26/07/2014 22:35

Not a fan of Gigi, seems a bit giggly/silly.

Romily, Clemency and Jemima vetoed by dh. He cannot see the problem with Diana at all..... Love the name, do not want that link.

How would Leonora be shortened?

Also, I think I would need to be somewhat Italian to use Paloma, surely?

Helena
Hermione
Imogen

Slavetominidictator · 27/07/2014 08:07

Don't quite like Imogen or Helena.

Dh approves of Hermione but isn't the Harry Potter connection the only thing people will think of now?

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 27/07/2014 08:18

I think yes, Hermione is totally out for awhile. But I'm American and had never heard of it before.

CheerfulYank · 27/07/2014 08:21

Ariadne? Persephone? Rosalie? Cressida? Briony? Marigold?

CheerfulYank · 27/07/2014 08:25

Isolde? Octavia? Thalia? Oona? Zelda? Xanthe?

I'm just tossing them out right now :o

Slavetominidictator · 27/07/2014 08:43

Ok, love Isolde and Octavia. How would they be shortened, do you think?

OP posts:
OublietteBravo · 27/07/2014 08:47

Artemis (the Greek equivalent of Diana)?
Astrid, Audrey, Fiona, Ingrid, Julia, Nadine, Rebecca, Sadie, Vanessa?

CruCru · 27/07/2014 09:46

I have a Claudia. Other names I liked were:

Madeleine
Marianne
Beatrice
Miriam
Elizabeth
Hannah

CheerfulYank · 27/07/2014 13:10

Isolde would maybe get Izzy, Octavia maybe Tay or Tavy on occasion. But I think they'd just be themselves mostly. :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2014 13:13

Isolde is lovely, and goes beautifully with Claudia.

Picklepest · 28/07/2014 10:21

It's not been on the thread yet. Dh mightn't like it as he's vetoed some names I thought ok. I'll think about it. More thinking might out me than much else. :)

Slavetominidictator · 28/07/2014 13:28

Afraid I don't love any of the recent suggestions. DH has a god daughter called Artemis and he's always thought it a bit much....

Pickle, is that a riddle? Am afraid I'm absolutely crap at anything like that. DH may not like it, he mostly doesn't like excellent names, but I am now super keen to know.

A few months after dd was born, I bumped into somebody with two daughters, one of whom was also called Claudia, but much older. I asked what her other daughter was called hopefully, and it was Margot, so v similar taste, totally not able to use it for next/potential dd2 as is dd's middle name......

Fleur
Joanie
Abi
Persephone (persi)
Penelope (penny)
Queenie
Nancy
Hattie

Beautifullymixed · 29/07/2014 00:12

I still love Paloma and don't think you need to be Italian at all to use it. Any more than you would need to be to use Isabella, Antonia or Alba. All Italian names.

My other favourite name is Portia and I know what my next two cats will definitely be called.

AnAirOfHope82 · 29/07/2014 05:20

Elouise
Maria
Tasmin
Mona

Slavetominidictator · 29/07/2014 09:27

In answer to the last few posts, love Camilla, thanks for that one.
Madrigals, one of those is my name but not a fan of the rest am afraid.
AirofHope, am afraid really dislike all of those.....
Slightly put of Paloma by two posters thinking it's a cat's name.
What about Perdita? Perdy for short?

OP posts:
Beautifullymixed · 29/07/2014 09:45

OP there's only mad me who wants Paloma as a cats name. Am too old for any more babies, so cats it is. Grin.

Love Camilla and also Perdita. Very unusual, but pretty.
