my OH likes Cas for a boy I said excitedly we can call him castiel (Cas-ste-el) also after an angel in a tv show, and it means shield of God. Just curious what's are folks thoughts on the name...

I've never seen supernatural so can't comment on that but the name makes me think of a cheap lager (!)

HopefulHamster · 26/07/2014 18:39

Jensen? Jared?

(Use Castiel!)

RedToothBrush · 26/07/2014 18:54

How odd. There is another thread from today suggesting the name Castiel. But the OP's partner had already had the baby.

TodaysNotAGoodDay · 26/07/2014 19:11

Lucas, Cas for short. No to Castiel.

TheTerribleBaroness · 26/07/2014 19:16

Cas is a perfectly good name on it's own. Castiel just sounds made up or like a misspelling of castle. So, basically I think the same as everyone else.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 26/07/2014 20:09

My OH suggested this for our as yet unborn son (yep, Supernatural fan!), as we already have a Gabriel and we wanted something that went nicely but wasn't TOO similar. I hated it - I'm so glad it's not just me who finds it weirdly unpronounceable and almost 'made up'!

I know this is an old post but our DS was born in 2014 and we named him Castiel. We did have reservations as he's never going to find his name on a Diet Coke bottle but he loves his name and the majority of people always comment that it is really lovely and unique. The decider vote was when we Googled name meanings and one came up as being the Angel of Thursday which is the day he was born. He's Cas for short.

FayCarew · 07/07/2023 08:42

My guess was that it was Casteel like the Knight's Castille soap.

Awesome 🙌

Are you the OP? I think it's a great name. Hope he loves it too.

LadyLapsang · 14/07/2023 20:03

I also thought of the (cheap and not nice) soap.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/07/2023 22:13

I'd be wary of using so obvious a pop culture name personally- I doubt anyone's heard of Castiel outside of Supernatural.

If you like Cas for a boy, most longer versions aren't overly popular but still better known as "real" names than Castiel. My personal fave is Caspian (a sea/nature name as much as a literary character) but Roman names Cassian and Cassius are quite nice too as well as international Casper.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/07/2023 22:15

Oh, should've checked this wasn't an old thread - glad your DS loves his name! 😀

Don't like it (sorry!) it sounds made up. I think it is made up? I think if be embarrassed if I had to explain I was named after an angel in a TV series. Sorry!

I liked it because I thought it was based on a real Angel but realised it was from a TV show it sort of lost its charm for me too. How about Cassiel? Cassiel is an Angel from Jewish, Christian and Islamic tradition.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 15/07/2023 09:50

Oh 😑 zombie thread 🧟‍♀️

user1492757084 · 15/07/2023 11:05

Castiel and Cassiel are both names I like. They have good meanings and history

Also ..
Caspar
Cassius
Casimir
