Does it mean something to you?

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 24/07/2014 23:23

Are you Swedish?

Emmelu · 24/07/2014 23:40

No.. I'm norwegian.. Is it that obvious that I'm from Scandinavia? Grin

I've never heard the name before, but it does sound Scandinavian yes.

As you're also Scandinavian, then I would say that the name is fine - I like it. I don't like it when people give DCs names from a culture that they aren't part of.

I'd prefer Emrik.

lettertoherms · 25/07/2014 08:07

I've never heard it before, but I like it, it sounds nice.

Emmelu · 25/07/2014 12:21

Okei.. Thanks! Smile
Not sure if there's a boy or a girl yet.
Boysnames are so hard - and I need it to work both in norwegian and in English. Emrik is gaining popularity in Norway, but I just wanted to see what you would make of it. :)

If it's a name that belongs to your culture, then it's great. It sounds strong and clear, and it's easy to say and spell in English even though it's very unusual here. I've only ever heard it in French (Emeric, with an acute acccent on the central e): This website may be of interest:

I've only ever seen the French name written as Eymeric.

It's an OK name but a bit of a lifetime curse of spelling his name on the phone etc if you are in the UK.

Emmelu · 25/07/2014 14:20

Is it that hard to spell?
I thought it was quite straight forward :)

It's easy to spell. There is a similar English name though Eric/Erik. He might find he keeps having to say "not Erik, Emrik".

I still like it though.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 25/07/2014 14:27

The m should have been in bold Confused St Davids

PecanNut · 25/07/2014 14:28

I've seen this name spelt Aymeric... that is 5 alternative spellings already so yes I'd say it is one he'd have to spell out for people.

Nice name though!

Emmelu · 25/07/2014 14:33

Haha.. okay! :P
Need to think more about it then.
Not easy finding the 'perfect name' :)

aww I like that name!!Grin

Lots of names have alternate spellings, so don't let that put you off. Even something "normal" like Katherine/Katharine/Catherine/Kathryn it Jane/Jayne etc.
