Baby names

Same name as someone famous

Is this a really bad thing to do? We have a fairly common surname, but my favourite name for DD2 who may well be DS2 would give her the same name as someone famous. Neither name is uncommon, think calling her Naomi if the surname was Campbell.

Is that a really bad idea?

I think that's Ok. She's not a real household name and she valued getting an education and all that.

I think that's fine. I know an Irene Adler.

I have a friend called Elizabeth Taylor

I wouldn't do it. The Jimmy Carr, Will Smith and Hugh Grant I know all hate it.

Oh also know an Emma Watson by marriage. She's not best pleased about it either.

I had to search it and had never heard of her before. But I don't live in the UK so that may not be relevant.

I'd probably use Lilian to get around this problem, but call her the shortened version in everyday life.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/07/2014 17:53

I wouldn't.

You never know what that celeb will turn out like

I have a relative called Michael Jackson.

And I expect there are a fair few James Saville's around who are pretty unhappy

Don't do it!

There must be loads of Harry Potters in the UK.

I feel sorry for all of them.

I think it's a lovely name :)

Oh!
i thought you were talking about dailymail fodder Kim, Kylie, Danii, Cameron, Jordan or Angelina - phew!

Lily is a lovely name, and I wouldn't think of anyone famous if i heard it.
Sounds like a flower name: Rose, Pansy, Violet, Ivy, Holly.
are you just going for Lily or Lily Cole? I think I'd choose something else if that was my second name tbh.

That is our surname venus :)

DP also likes Daisy, but I think it's too cutesy. Violet is another option. But Lily is my favourite!

You could marry someone and end up with a famous name if you took their surname.

(Or a rhyming one. I knew a Julie Bewley after marriage. Always made me smile.)

Lily cole is lovely.

Well it's not Cheryl. Or Norris Smile

What about Lilian?

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 24/07/2014 14:15

I don't think LC is famous enough to be worried about it.

If your surname was Beckham, and you were thinking of using Victoria, I would probably say otherwise!!

Report
Bearsinmotion · 24/07/2014 14:37

I think the consensus is she's not too famous :)

I'm not sure about Lilian. Or Lilith, but that reminds me of Frasier!

Bearsinmotion - Have you thought of Lilia? I think it means Lily. :)

Let's just say it's a young, red haired model who went to Cambridge!

You can totally get away with that! They are both quite 'normal' names it's not like Englebert Humperdinck or something.

ViviPru · 24/07/2014 16:27

I couldn't even remember her surname and I work in fashion (supposedly) so yeh - go for it.

Trooperslane · 24/07/2014 16:27

It's lovely op.

Go for it.

Bet there are plenty of other people of that name too.

I definitely think you'd get away with that and I think it's a lovely full name flows really well !

Pang I know an Emma Watson by marriage too !! Grin (Well not personally she works with my mum Grin)

However, I do prefer you choice of Lily. I didn't even know the model until I looked her up. So go for it :)

I would not do that(( it's not the best idea for your baby to have the same name as someone famous, to my mind

Strokethefurrywall · 24/07/2014 22:38

I was about to say the same thing about all the Harry Potters!

Poor buggers. I bet there's not been one born since the book though!

Choccyhobnob · 25/07/2014 11:37

I think that would be fine Smile
